View Full Version : Extended Stay Reservations

We hope to spend more time traveling after I retire in the next 6-15 months. I may spend some of that time workamping. We love our time on the road and, unlike many vacations, as long as we're in our Montana, we feel like we're at home. No burning need get back to our own bed. It's right behind us. Only time will tell whether it becomes full time.

My question How far in advance are you reserving spots? We had a difficult time finding a spot for a week in AZ this February with a couple months lead time. Asking about a month in AZ for next year at a couple spots while we were out there was met with, "Here's our waiting list. Put your name on it and we'll call you later in the summer if there is any availability."

We also had a difficult time finding a spot in central MN for the month of July.

We're just curious how far ahead do we have to be planning for longer stays especially in popular locations.

Thanks … I assume that's the issue in AZ too … Only a few sites in a few parks that are left open for short term stays. I can't blame the park for maximizing their long term stays. It's guaranteed money.

I assume that once your into a location, you can secure your spot year after year. We're just not sure we want to commit to the same place year after year. We'd prefer to explore for a few years.

We do AZ in the winter from a home base in New Mexico. That way we always have a place to park and we usually make reservations in AZ six months in advance, but only stay in one place for a week or two.

Thanks DQDick.

We're hoping for a month in AZ, Tucson area, in January and somewhere along the Gulf coast in TX for February.

We'll start looking for spots this summer if the "waiting lists" we're on don't work for us. Maybe we'll have to look at a week or two at a couple different places to make it all work for us.

Tucson is tough. Generally we can find a place at either the Pima Co Fairgrounds or the Voyager. The fairgrounds will kick you out if they have a large event like the Escapade and Voyager sometimes tells you they are full on the phone but find you a spot if you come in in person. Other folks seem to have luck staying in Benson. Our home base is just north of Carlsbad and since it's in the high desert can get cold in the winter. This winter it was warmer there than in Tucson and it snowed on us in Tucson but never in New Mexico.

The economy is good and people are traveling back in 07 /08 we had no problem finding a site anywhere. You will need to look at least a year in advance most everywhere.

Spent the winter in Tucson at Rinconwest. You have to call I think April 15th to make reservations. Since I was there this year as like many, we get to make reservations when we leave. February is the gem show so everything fills up in Tucson. Call early but we saw people come in for a month at a time.

At our resort in Florida it is at least a 3 month or longer stay can make reservations. If it is less you get put on a waiting list. No problem for me I stay here all year long. This is my home. We still work so when we get to retirement age I will travel more also.
Good luck

This year when it got cold in GA we did a tour through FL to visit friends and family and warm up. I started planning about three weeks in advance and got reservations in six different parks over the course of a month. All stays except one were under a week. When calling around I was only rejected a couple times for no vacancy. I did fimd many parks online however that required 3 months or more to reserve. You just have to continue looking. In one park where he had stayed before we decided to reserve a spot for the whole month of Feb next year and skip all the work.
