Can anybody let me know If it's okay to travel with a 40+' Big Sky, West out of Denver on Interstate 70; then South on Interstate 15 to Las Vegas. It has been many years since we traveled thru there and it was in a car. We don't remember what it was like.

I did it a few months back with my Lance. You shouldn't have any problem with your setup. You'll definitely be doing some long grades but with the exhaust brake and gears you'll be fine. It's too pretty a drive to skip.

Yes, you can.

Know how to mountain drive, gear down, exhaust brake and step on the brakes if necessary.

We just did I 70 from Moab to Denver for the first time.

It is steep. It is ok to slow down, it is NOT ok to burn up your brakes.

This is what you DO NOT want to see or do:

That is brake smoke, stinky brake smoke. That is not moisture from the road surface being sprayed.

Be careful and check the Mountain West book for grades so you are aware.

It's beautiful! Enjoy the ride.

Beautiful drive, good roads all the way. Just west of Denver, around the town of Idaho Springs, there has been quite a bit of construction, but it's pretty well wrapped up now. Long grades, but bearable due to the excellent roads. As noted, watch your downhill speed and don't get in a hurry.

Have a great trip!

p.S. I don't know where you are coming from, but use 470 around Denver if you can.

Did you stay around to see the wreck??

I just came from Las Vegas to Topeka, Kansas by that route this month. A beautiful drive long grades but very doable. Very nice Colorado state parks along I 70 near grand Junction and off 470 near Denver. Definitely take 470 around Denver

halfwright: We did NOT stick around for the wreck. LOL

There was still construction eastbound on I 70 at Idaho Springs, this was on Tuesday this week (please check calendars to determine date, we are retired, I am not sure of date, I am lucky to remember what day of the week it was! LOL)

We blasted, err, rolled right through Denver on I 70, at 4 PM on Tuesday. The traffic slowed down a few times, but, it was no worse than any other larger city, and we have seen worse, done worse. There was also some construction just past Denver, again, eastbound, that slowed us down a bit. If you get in the center lane and drive wisely it is doable.

Thanks everybody! I'm sure we will be just fine. I sure am happy we have the exhaust brake so we can be more confident on trips like this.
