I was just curious, even though I know this poll was not scientific. On the new models (several of them including the 3611 we just ordered) they've put hookups for the washer on the right and the dryer (if you have both) on the left in the closet. We have the vented combo. In order to operate the washer you have to move the clothes that are hanging, crawl up in the closet or lean waaay in. Then you have humidity in the closet with your clothes. The reason, according to Keystone, is that only 5% of owners have washers/dryers. I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know that's going to be one of the first mods on our unit. Unfortunately the door in front of the washer/dryer does not slide, and there's a bench in front of it. I would sacrifice the bench to be able to have the front of the washer/dryer facing into the bedroom and a wall between the closet and washer/dryer. I have a feeling this new 'feature' in their floor plan won't last two years.

napria
11-14-2014, 09:38 AM
Ours is in the kitchen, in what could be a big pantry, stacked one above the other. I've looked at those floorplans with the washer on one side of the closet and the dryer clear across on the other. Since I use my machines almost every time we go out, and usually every other day, I've questioned the practicality of the master clothes closet set up.

We had the Splendide Combo in our 06 but the wife didn't like how long it took to do clothes and the fact it wouldn't do a large load,so she ended up going to a laundry mat. So the 13 doesn't have one. [8D]

The reason we have a Montana is because of the stackable W/D prep. My wife put her foot down and said that any 5W we bought would have a separate Washer and Dryer. She didn't want to spend her days in the laundromat while others were having fun. So we picked the 3402RL which has a closet with W/D prep and it's tall enough to contain a Whirlpool stackable W/D. The dealer installed it and recommended the Whirlpool because of the service network everywhere instead of just CW service for the Spendide W/D.

Turns out the biggest problem with service is being at one place long enough to complete the service process. Whirlpool sent out a service person, but ordering the part and returning proved to be an issue. Now we wait for the next long term camping. Luckily the problem we have is one we can work around, but want fixed while it's covered under warranty.

Whirlpool stackable, 220 dryer. Sue Loves it and would not be without it. Big loads and fast drying. I remember early on in our adventures on the road going to a laundrymat, (or down south wash-a-teria) uncomfortable chairs, creepy neighborhood, dirty machines. Made my mind up then to get our own.

Splendide vented combo; small loads only (single king sheet), leaves wrinkles even when careful but better than spending $25 and driving 50 miles round trip every 2 weeks. Haven't been to the laundromat in 8 months, excluding camping trips.

Not I... When I purchased, I researched and at that time (2006) most people said the single unit style took most of a day to dry one sheet. Also, could only get a few pieces of clothes in at a time, so had to do laundry every day. We can go about a week and just use the campground stuff. Maybe newer machines are more effecient??

Clays390
02-14-2017, 06:05 PM
I understand that anyone not full-timing may not see the need of having laundry facilities on-board. We full-time and it has been a nice feature to have. That being said we are currently thinking we may go to a class A in the near future. Several of the floor-plans we are looking at do not feature a washer/dryer. Just one more decision we will have to make. we will not give up full-timing any time in the near future. As long as there is a laundry facility in/near the campground we will be good.

Hookups are there but the loss of storage space, cost of purchase and the added 125-150 pounds pin weight on a marginally GVW stickered truck say that a few bucks every week at a laundromat or RV facility will be 'forever' no w/d.

Although we have the supposed "lack of storage" 3820FK with the "what were they thinking" laundry location, we installed a Splendide ventless in the roughed in position in the bedroom closet.

We love it. Wouldn't have normally bought a unit to install but got a freebie that needed a new control board. So for that low cost we thought we would give it a try. The tight space next to the bed really isn't that big of deal. We do frequent small loads and the hassle of dealing with crappy campground machines is a thing of the past. Cycle times are long with the ventless, but who cares. Start a load and forget about it for a couple hours. Water and power usage is surprisingly low.

I went back and checked my original 2014 post. Now 2 RVs later I could answer the same, still have an RV equipped with stackable W/D (vented). I think it boils down to what type of RVer you are. If you do shorter more local trips then going to park laundry facilities may not be too bad. Even though we never found we could get by on $3.00 per week going to one. If you are a long time or full time traveler then I suppose you would lean toward having your own W/D on board.

I installed an Electrolux washer and GE dryer in our 2017 3197RD. I chose the Electrolux because of the high speed spin (1400 rpm) to help minimize drying time for a 110v dryer. All is good so far. Only downside is the Electrolux is a few pounds heavier than some (180 lbs),

The Electrolux washer is what we are planning to install. Good to hear that you are happy with it. As we primarily dry camp I'm hoping that the power consumption won't be to high to run off of our batteries.

Pattifab
02-18-2018, 12:25 PM
They do smaller loads than a regular washer, of course, but they aren't tiny loads either...depending on what you are washing. You learn, over time, how many clothes to put in it. You also learn what you can and can't dry in them...some things are better to be put on a hanger to dry. And with jeans and slacks, make sure you don't overload it or they turn out wrinkly. But yes, with a washer/dryer combo, you can set the wash and the dry at the same time and not bother with it again until the clothes are ready to fold. Or if you don't want a particular load to dry, you set it not to.

The folks at Splendide are quite helpful. If the moderators let it stay, I uploaded the Splendide Training Manual to the files section of this forum that lists error codes and troubleshooting steps to resolve many problems. Very useful manual for Splendide owners. It is also available directly from their web site.

This may help you with your drying cycle issue.

We had our first failure of our Splendide Combo since we purchased it in 2006 .Control board failed. We are long timers and use the splendide a lot. It was a learning experience as to size of loads , etc. It is a huge convenience yes it does smaller loads and takes a while to complete the entire cycle but who is in a hurry. Would not buy one if we were low end users. The laundry facility at our winter home in Florida is clean well kept and we use that for large items. It takes a least 1 1/2 hours to do a complete wash / dry cycle in the splendide. Their customer service and technical support is awesome. We have visited the plant in Elkhart.

My wife and I are trying to decide whether to get a Splendide combo ventless or vented. Which one do you think is the best? I am leaning toward the vented, but I do not want to put another hole in my Montana.

Thank you for your input!!

The combo is not that great but if stuck with it go vented. I'd go to a laundromat in a ghetto at 3AM before another unvented combo.

Vented. You don't want all of that lint activating your allergies. And if you do any winter camping and run your furnace any you will accumulate moister inside the camper from the heat against the cold walls and windows. Blowing more moist air into the RV from the dryer is a recepie for a lot of moisture problems. If the dryer vent is properly installed and sealed, you'll have no problems with it. Just consult your dealer before you drill the hole. I had a friend who drilled where the sign said "drill here for dryer vent" and hit a stud.

2018 High Country 345rl. We have the separate washer and dryer up in the front closet. Really like it so far. The washer shakes the whole rig a little when spinning. That's to be expected I suppose.

We just put our clothes in a pillow case & walk over to the laundry mat at the rv park. There’s a spot for washer & dryer in closet but for me to walk over to laundry area is easy. It would be nice if I had more room in my 5th wheel. But that’s life...

Just installed an Electrolux washer. As we dry camp 99% of the time we did not install a dryer. The washer works off of our inverter and the rinse water goes into our blueboy.

Splendide stackable. Works great. One caution don't dry rugs with rubber backs. This will result in dryer drum sticking and will friction burn through the drum belt. Major job to replace.

Can I ask why you would go vented? I am looking at putting one in our 2009 Montania mountaineer 345 DBQ. It’s “prepped” for it but I am nervous about having to put a hold in side of camper to vent.

:whistling: Like you I was apprehensive on drilling the hole but ~~ hearing how the Unvented dry or don't dry and the condition of the wrinkles vented was the only way to go. After a vented combo we now have the separates, vented dryer of course, and that is the best way. Combos take forever per small load. Vented does a much better job.

Hi we have a Montania Mountineer 345 DBQ that is prepped for washer dryer. My first question is vented or not vented? I am not crazy about putting a hole in side of camper but seems like vented works better. Is this a big job or expensive to get done? Could my husband do it himself?

Second question..what model washer dryer combo?

1. SPLENDIDE WASHER/DRYER - EXTRA CAPACITY - VENTED - WHITE - 72-8490

2. Equador Super Combo SK 4400 CV (was Sekido)

The vented uses warm air to dry the clothes just as a home dryer does. A non vented model heats the clothes causing the water in the cloths to evaporate. At the same time it flows in cold water to condense that water vapor back to liquid form to drain out. The cold water does not get on the clothes. Just causes the vapor to condense, collect with the cold water, and go out the drain. But that process takes time and a lot of extra water.

None. Where we host......most have washer and dryers for the hosts......if not...a short trip to the laundromat and 1 1/2 hours later.....3 loads of clothes are done. We value our space where the washer/dryer would be since we full-time.

If we keep the OP in mind then what WE drive or how far we have driven it doesn’t matter. He is obviously concerned about safely pulling his trailer and our answers should reflect that. You can argue all day if it is right or wrong but my answer will be:
A-This what you might get away with short term
and
B-This is the best truck to tow with

If you are considering less than B to replace A you should consider SAFETY above conienence in all but the most extreme circumstances!

Suggesting it is no big deal to buy a truck that does not perform it’s most demanding task with a good safety margin is irresponsible.

I suspect most folks would be better served to buy a duall strictly to tow and a small car as a daily driver. In the long term it would end up being less expensive I suspect as you save on fuel and the big expensive truck will last longer.

We have Splendide side by side in a 3720RL. They are not only convenient, but saves money. Using RV Park water and electricity, laundromat's charge anywhere between $1.50 - $3.75 per washer load, and 25 cents/5 minutes for dryer. Glad we have it! We have switched to a residential Samsung running on inverter. That also is the next best thing we upgraded to.

We have the Splendide stackable set. In our limited experience so far, we're glad to have them. Extended stays with 2 younger children and a tween ... they're totally worth it. I'm still trying to optimize my settings on the dryer (enough dry time without going too hot).
Installation was not easy or fast. Drilling the hole in the side was a time-intensive chore for this rookie family and moving the units into their spaces was challenging for my husband and father (with a little help from me). Needless to say...there were a few unexpected scratches on the bottom of the interior cabinetry on the 1-week-old RV upon completion. Nevertheless, I'm happy overall and those scratches were covered up with Crayola colored pencils. :socool:
We have a pretty chrome vent to the outside that looks like it belongs (I hesitated when I saw chrome in the shopping bag....but it works!) To help others interested in this, we're in a 2018 High Country 362RD and the W/D are installed in the main living area cabinet/pantry (not the bedroom up front).

We have been full timing for 1 1/2 and have not found the need to a washer dryer. We like having the space in the RV and don't want to add to the extra weight of the rig. Besides, it is easy going to the laundromat, spending some time reading or meeting folks.

I'll chime in with a Splendide all in one, vented. Works great! Putting in storage in the other half the closet. Our 3811MS is ideal for this setup. Took me a month to decide and it's been none stop washing/drying for a month now. Small loads but time is on our side when full timing.

Hey guys:
Just entered 14th year full timing. Had washer/dryer combo in SOB but removed after using only 5 times in first year. Now have a 2013 Montana 3800RE. Plumbed properly but we would rather use the park facilities when staying for any length of time and go to the laundromat where ever we end up in the 3 months we travel each year. Always meet interesting people in town laundromats. Get lots of local information.
Drive with care, everywhere.

"Interesting people" ... like the lady that was using a machine next to a friend, actually multiple machines. Laundry had an oder. When she took the 1st load out of the dryer and ran to the restroom to change it was easily seen why. All the brown from above her waist to down her legs. Evidently she was sick and would not use her machine at home for the wash. They installed a w and d after that episode .

Just installed a Splendide 7100XC in my 384BR. Not sure how I ever got by without it.
I'm not experiencing the many horror stories about wet clothes and wrinkles now that I've learned how to use it.

Didn't go with a stack unit or the 2100XC because I didn't want to drill a vent hole in the side of my fifth wheel rv.

We just sold our old DRV and bought a new one. Took the (15years old) stacked Kenmore units out of the old Mobile Suites and installed in our Monty. Hated loosing the closet but making adjustments. Sure is nice having a washer and dryer handy when you need something washed. We used this rig for three years without the machines. Used the laundromats at campgrounds and in town. We really like Corps of Engineers parks and we don’t normally see them there. We also like knowing what has been in our washer/dryer.....

I'd rather use the campground facilities. No matter how many loads, 1 1/2 hours I'm done. It's my piece and quiet time to myself our 3820FK is plumbed for it, but I'd rather have storage. Nothing. I prefer the storage space. I also hear they are expensive, problematic, and can only do small loads.

They are expensive but no more rolls of quarters to put in machines heaven knows who put what in there

They take up space but we long time for 3-4 months at a time and the 3761FL has more than we can use

Few problems with the Splendide units

Stackable units are not tiny like combo loads

Convenient- not wasting hours at a laundry when other things to do. Run to a laundry from your S&B?

Everyone chooses what is best for them but we will never be without again after years of having them.
