Breakaway switch lanyard

We just took delivery today of our Montana 2955RL and we were instructed by the service tech to loop the lanyard over the slider handle. This didn't work to well because it pulled out during the course of a turn on our way home. What does anyone suggest we anchor the lanyard to?

Not sure if you have the same hitch set-up....post your hitch information and maybe someone with the same hitch can tell you where they loop the lanyard to.

We loop ours to a small silver "bolt" on the pull-handle side of the hitch that is secured with a large cotter pin. We pull out the cotter pin, the bolt goes through two brackets so we push the bolt back out of one of the brackets and loop it around the bolt, push the bolt back in and secure the cotter pin.

Well heck, I can see it plain as day..... hahaha[:I]

I place my break away lanyard over the release handle of my hitch. I do have the superglide, so I guess the plate, handle and all slide and rotate in the direction of the turn. So the lanyard to pull out and apply the brakes would not be a problem. I am sure someone will be along to give you a better idea. Congrats on your new 2955RL. That really seems to be a popular model.

I use a small spring loaded D ring to keep the release lever locked when towing. I put the loop of the lanyard through the ring also.

I hook mine to the bottom of the hitch with a small clamp (one of those that you turn the nut to open and then turns back to form a loop - don't know the actual hardware name? I have a rocker hitch and the bottom or base does not move. The handle portion of the hitch would move and I would anticipate it pulling on the cord.

I have been hooking mine to the paddle lock I use to lock the pull handle.

I also lock mine with the handle lock, you know the little lever that swings down to lock the handle in place, it has a hole drilled thru it for a padlock, push the loop between the lever and the hitch plate, slip the lock thru the hole and the cable loop at the same time. I seldom lock the lock unless leaving the rig somewhere, but its always there just in case and as the tool to secure the cable loop.

I have a tie down near the tailgate of my GMC my Dodge also had the same .I use a clip and attach the lanyard.Gives slack when turning.

We too use the lock on our fifth wheel hitch to the lanyard on breakaway. Keeps someone from moving the handle and unlock your kingpin and you know that if you have breakawy installed when you have trailier hitched to the truck. no problems at all this way.

I have plenty of slack when looping the lanyard over the handle of my 15K Reese hitch. However, I don't have an extended hitch pin on the Montana.

Mine was fine hooked to the handle even when I had the extended pinbox. I like it up there since I tend to load things against the tailgate when travelling( coolers, firewood, milk crate with 50 amp cord).

I have the 16K Reece hitch and I have no problem hooking over the release handle. It has never pulled the break no matter how hard of a turn I have made. You may want to add 6"-12" to yours.
