View Full Version : Question for Dodge 3500 owners

I'm getting ready to replace my faithful 96 2500 V10 2wd with a new 3500. We have a 2005 3670 and I've been considering a 4x4 but am concerned with the bed rail clearance and pin height. Any experience and/or opinions to share?

Mike, I'm not an expert, but I have a 3500 4x4 SRW with a Reese 16K hitch, installed by Dodge dealer Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg, ID (good dealer, I might add). Never had a problem with bed rail clearance or pin height. Good choice on truck, IMHO!

I also have the Dodge ram 3500 short bed 4x4.No problems with the Montana sitting level when hooked up.have I believe close to 8 inches of clearance between the rails and the Montana.I also have the 16k reese hitch.

I have 1999 Dodge 3500 4X4 and the clearance is ok. Nothing to brag about. I actually have not measured it, but will next time it's hooked up. When backing around my driveway, the truck and 5th are in a twist. They get very close. The clearance has not been a problem any where else.

We have about 7" clearance from the top of the soft tonneau cover rails to the bottom of the overhang when sitting level. This can, of course, be easily adjusted by adding a bit of air to the hitch suspension. ;)

We, too, were concerned by this and had the dealership hitch it up BEFORE giving them any ca$h.

Seriously, for 2003s and later, it's a non-issue.
