I've read all the stories about the "china-bombs", and listened to (if not heeded) the wisdom of the people of this forum. I posted at one time that new tires were not in the budget for this year, and was advised to at least get a monitoring system, which I did. Coming home from our last trip of the season today, I kept a close eye on my speed, which stayed around 60 the whole way, and watched the tires through the monitor. Pressures were good, temps too and we made it home without any problems, about 220 miles. I should add that this camper is in no way overloaded, although I haven't weighed it.
After unhitching, I went to put the covers on the tires when I spotted a baseball-sized bubble on the inside sidewall of the front street-side tire. Geez, another 10 miles and who knows?
These tires have less than 2000 miles on them. The dealership put them on in April when we picked up the camper. I will be contacting Goodyear tomorrow, and, hopefully get some value for these towards a set of (probably) G614's. One thing for sure, this camper isn't going anywhere on these tires again.

Go buy a lottery ticket, heck... buy 10!
Glad you dodged that "bomb".

Monitering systems are great but as you found out, do not identify problems like you discovered. Goodyear seems to be cooperative with replacement issues.

Glad you found it before it announced it's self. Goodyear treated me right, hopefully they'll do the same for you.

Thanks to the forum you were educated on the tire problem, monitored your tires and took action. And you were lucky.

That's true. Without this forum, I wouldn't have given much thought about tires. I had these Marathons on my 10,000lb. TT, without any problems. And, I was very lucky.

I, too, had a bubble on one of my Kumho 857's on my previous trailer after less a year of use. Unfortunately Tire Rack where I purchased the tire from, as well as the installer, stated that this was caused by hitting an object which caused the bulge. So I ended up being SOL in getting any reimbursement.

Good luck on your endeavor in getting financical satisfaction.

On a side note, look how good the tread looks!

I have 2011 3455sa with the Marathon tires. Goodyear will only assist if you can send in the blown tire. I unfortunately drove for several miles after the tire blew (unknowingly) and the tire was non-existent. I was driving on the rim. Goodyear would not assist in my case.

Hi ... I have a 2010 Montana 3465SA. I still have the Marathons on it but I'm looking more towards the G614's that are being recommended. My problem. I have three tires with good tread still and even wear. My 4th tire on the front axle passenger side has good tread but excessive wear ONLY on the outer edge. Tire pressure has been good. No excessive speed or serious hits? What's causing t? I want to find out before I replace my tires. In the meantime I may just replace it with the spare. Ant thoughts would be appreciated. Just south of Palm Springs right now near Brawley. Thanks.

That axle need to be aligned. Most truck places or larger RV places should be able to do it for you.

I had a Marathon blowout yesterday on my 2010 3455 SA. I do have the remaining carcass on the wheel, which is also damaged, and the tread that wrapped itself around the axle.
I have spent this am going over the forum threads on " Marabombs " and of course want to replace these, altho i haven't put 4000 miles on them since buying the new unit.

Several questions-
are the G 614's sized at 235/ 85 / R16 , my marathons are 235/80

on my 3455 SA , will my wheels handle the G 614's ? I saw that higher load rated tires might require a higher rated wheel ?

Did you get any satisfaction from goodyear?

What about coverage for body damage and wheel replacement ?

All help appreciated !!

Look inside the wheel, and if you are lucky, you might find a marking that indicates 110#, or something like that. If you find that, it means the wheel is rated for the G614 tires and up to the 110 lbs tire pressure. Can't remember if it is inside the tire area or on the inner part of the wheel that you can see with a tire mounted.

Yep, I already checked, and they are indeed rated for 110PSI. That helps. Thanks.

But did you notice what size wheels you have. My montana came with goodyear marathons mounted on sendel 16x6 wheels. I think that goodyear specs for the g614 state that you need 16x6.5 inch wheels. So i changed my wheels to 17.5 inch and the tires to med duty commercial truck tires (sumitomo) which were still the same overall diameter as the 16 inch goodyears. trailer tires and wheels in ohio was the source. And they only get up to high 90s and 105F for temperature when towing all day. Of course, i drive at 60mph even though these tires can handle more than i care to tow at. john
