Well, it happened. I learned an expensive lesson not once, but TWICE!
I learned that even with a Pullrite Superglide, if your trailer or yor truck encounter uneven ground while turned, the pin box WILL HIT THE BED RAILS!.....Tore a hole in my Line-X and also tore a hole in the rail. I'm looking for a more slender pin box setup that won't hit the truck regardless of the turn. The saddest part is that the grade wasn't even that unlevel! The bulky pin box setup just didn't have the clearance.:(

GSP805,
Sorry to hear about your mishap. This really has me thinking. I have done some past 90 degree turns on very uneven ground with my Superglide and have had no trouble. After thinking on how this could have happened the only thing I can think of is your dealership did not give enough room for clearance between the bed rails and coach. The kingpin height can be adjusted to allow more or less depending on each situation. Let us know what was done to correct the problem.

Sounds like some work to discover the cause of your mishap. Keep us posted. happyrving.....

hi,
i suppose this is related. i have had enough close calls and have been toying with the idea of removing the pickup bed and putting on some type of flat bed, covered in diamond plate aluminum. i have checked a half dozen dealers of conversions and most seem reluctant to talk about this kind of modification for a Ram 2500 long bed.
Or the price they mention is way out of sight for the product.
my latest thoughts are to build it myself, has any one done a project like this? what are the pitfalls? good points?
any thoughts would be appreciated ...;)

I had my reese hitch replaced with a superglide and noticed that it was much lower clearance, less then 6", so I had the Dealer lower the pin box and now I have around 8". I always look back if possible when going over dips or sloped curves and have never came that close to hitting. Do we all have the same size pinbox on our Montana's? What type of truck are you driving?

I have just installed a PullRite 16K SuperGlide and pulled our "new to us" 3280 RL 300 miles in south Texas last weekend. It really did great. I have about 7" clearance between the bed rails and the 5er. While backing and turning out of a dead end parking lot at a lake, had some very uneven ground but did not see that I got even close to touching. I will keep an eye out for this in the future. My pin box is very narrow. In fact, when I installed the hitch and the special plate on the pin, I had to weld it on since there was not any lip on the side to drill holes and mount with screws. A new pin box may be your solution. good luck.

Since getting my Pullrite last October I have been in numerous uneven manuvers getting into and out of sites and not once has the pin box come into contact with the truck. It could be your pin box is not adjusted properly.
