Wow, I remember paying over $600 for it thinking I got a top of the line TV that would never give me any problems.

WRONG!

it's been in the RV for about 18 months and has seen less than 100 hours of usage. It's dead, dead, DEAD! The mainborad croaked and a replacement is $330 from Searsparts.com, currently on backorder.

We went to Wally World and picked up a Sony for $348, with an extended warranty!

Funny thing, our friends Sharp microwave died just out of warranty too! go figure!

The gotcha in this is that the Sony is not the same external size as the Sharp so I'm going to have to to some more cabinet work.

What size is the Sony????? I have a Sony 26 or 28, whatever they came in for size and it fits in the hole in my Model 2955. No problem. Put it in side-ways and turn it around. Drill a 1/4 in. hole in the base on the back side and put a new bolt and washers on and you are good to go after hooking up the cords. I bring mine in in the Winter as I don't want the Plasma screen to freeze....JB

We have a 32 inch Sharp Aquos in our Montana and it's within a couple weeks of 3 years old and gets nearly constant use. No failures, yet.

The Sony is a 32 inch model. It's 1/4 inch wider than the Sharp. Not a big problem.

I've been searching for the mainboard and found a remanufactured one for $104. Guaranteed for 60 days. I may repair it or recycle it. Haven't decided yet if it's worth it.

In the meantime our DLP TV is shutting itself down several times a week.

I have the worst luck with TV's!

I'm sorry about your problems with the Sharp but I sure hope that's an isolated incident! I don't like replacing expensive pieces that I think should last a lot longer! I hope your Sony gives you better, and longer, service.

Our year and half old 32" Samsung just quit on us (continues to turn off and on by itself). Good Sam extended warranty says get a diagnosis and estimate. Will have to wait till Monday for that to happen.

Ron, look under your recliner cushion - you're sitting on the remote! :-)

Just out of curiosity, I am wondering if those who are experiencing television failures have their rigs equipped with EMS's or Autoformers?? My understanding of these newer televisions is they are as particular as computers, microwaves and air conditioners with regards to the power supply?? Having fried a couple of microwaves (half times) due to bad park power supplies, I can attest to the security that our electrical monitoring system provides. Since we did the installation on the previous rig and transferred it to the new rig, we have never experienced anything electrical to have a failure. Comments??
Bingo

Is that the voice of experience?

I have the PT-50C, and although it has killed power to the RV a few times when the pedestal power was not suficient, I believe it has saved the electronic equipment.

I wonder if there is a little invisible timer in the newer equipment that tells it when the warranty is up. Sort of like our trucks, rv's and other things with warranties.

I have wondered about the power quality as well. But my research found that my particular Aquos is notorious for burning out the mainboard every year or so, for no apparent reason.

Good point Bingo. On the way to Florida my 1.5 yr old PI 50amp PMS quit working and it took 2 weeks to get another one from them (another story). Since then the unit has shut power down several times ( I believe due to short power spikes but no way to prove it). That was about the time the Samsung started acting up. Neighbor w/o PMS has not had a TV problem. Should know soon what the actual problem is (had to rebuilt part of main board for $150) when I pick it up this weekend. GS Ext. Insurance has $200 ded.

Bingo, we've not had a television failure and sometimes use an autoformer and other times do not. Actually, we used the autoformer for about 4 years, until it died, and now use a different brand. Same concept, though.
