The End is the Beginning.

Wednesday is the end of Dianna's 28 year career at NASA. It is the beginning of all that we have planned in the Montana. Thursday we travel to the site where we will pour a pad, put in a septic tank, and put in hook-ups for our "home base". It is a 24 acre farm in Central Texas, about 10 miles off I45 half way between Houston and Dallas.

This place looks like a park. Our pad will be surrounded by Cedars and Oaks. Some of the old Oaks have 8 foot or more diameter trunks. There will be a small lake visible from our big Montana back window. There is shade, crickets, birds, squirrals, and deer. Deafening silence and stars at night are treasures only enjoyed apart from the metropolitian areas.

Monty's ready to go as soon as I complete my broadcast on Thursday Morning. As soon as the home base is established, we are off to Montana Nervana. Our next milestone is to get the house sold.

Stiles,

Is this home base a regular campground, or a tidbit you have in your back pocket! It sounds VERY NICE!

Congrats on a plan well executed! May retirement be all you both have envisioned!

Carol,

It is not a campground. It is a farm or country place we have access to. All we need do is set it up and use it as we wish. It will be our official "domicile" while we become nomads.

It is great that you have made it....don't know how they are gonna launch the shuttles without her at NASA anymore. BTW, sounds like the home base is somewhere between Buffalo and Fairfield, love that part of Texas.

Stiles, I do not know if you have ever seen the Kevin Costner movie, Field of Dreams, but in it Costner plays Ray Kinsella, who plows up his corn crop to build a baseball field, because “if you build it, he will come,” he being Ray’s father. At the end of the movie, Ray’s father asks him if that field is heaven, and later, Ray looks around him and replies that perhaps this is heaven, though he had responded Iowa earlier.

It sounds like the two of you are making your own version of heaven. “Deafening silence”… Well, I think that speaks volumes!

Congratulations, and be sure to enjoy that spot some for the rest of us who still have to maintain the daily grind!

Congratulations, Stiles. What a wonderful stage of life to begin. Don't forget to make room for your friends when they come to visit.....one or two more hookups for folks passing through.

Stiles and Diana,
Congrats! We just got done adding a new well, power poles and septic to our place in preparation for using it as a home base in the (near) future (3 to 5 years). If you are ever in Old Town Florida or just passing through and need a place to stop over or stay a while let me know, you guys are more than welcome to stay at our place anytime. Once again congrats and now it's time to really start enjoying the good things life has to offer.

Congratulations... we will join you in Texas the end of August, only we will be in Bastrop on our own little heaven. We are setting up a permanent spot on the back of our son's 2 acres. We will be about 200 yards from the grandkids.
