3402rl weight

What kind of pin weight are you 3402rl drivers encountering? I know that my gross is listed as 16k, but I havenít even hooked up to mine yet. I had it dragged over here to the park when I bought it since I hadnít bought the new truck yet. And will put the hitch in this spring. Oh yea, the local RV stealership wanted $693 to install the rails, even with me buying the custom mounts, YIKES! I will most certainly do that one myself. I am looking at the Reese 20k non-slider.

Hi Jim,

Have you considered the RAM "puck" system for your hitch? I have one in my truck and it sure makes installing and uninstalling the hitch really easy plus there isn't any rails in the bed of the truck.

Mine was installed by the dealer and looking at the installation instructions it appears that about the same work was needed to install the pucks as to install a good rail system.

B&W makes a 20K Companion hitch that gives you gooseneck ball. The same slot for the gooseneck ball is where the 5er hitch is mounted. There are no surface bed rails. That's what we have and it works well.

In regards to your question "What kind of pin weight are you 3402rl drivers encountering?" ours is the 13 3402 Big Sky.We are long timers and run heavy last time we did a weigh at the fall rally we were at just over 3K pin weight. We use the trailer saver BD3 hitch and previously used the reese 16K.

As you have not bought the truck both ford and dodge have the puck system. Not sure about chev or GMC? I have the Ford F-350 with the towing package and I just added an adapter to the puck system so I could use my existing hitch. Adapter cost $300 and was easy to install myself. My friend bought the hitch designed for the puck system $1,400.00 a little on the pricey side for me as my hitch was paid for just needed the adapter.

I use the Ram Pucks. That the hitch, drop it in the holes, 1/4 turn lock each and done. Love it! Consider the suggest to use the hitch that connects to king pin ball.

GM does have a Puck System as I have a 2018 that should be arriving any day with the installed Puck option.

To get a ball park pin weight, use 20% if the GVWR.

Thanks to all for your responses. I think I’ll check with the dealer I bought the truck from and see what the installed price is from them for the puck system. I had a king ranch dally and the BW companion hitch and it was nice, but Heavy!

B&W hitches are heavy but none better in my opinion. My neighbors Reese and Curt are made in China.

You are right about the weight of the B&W. Since my wife can't help me get the B&W hitch up into the truck bed I bought a 1 ton capacity fold able shop crane from Harbor Freight for $99 on black Friday. I also got two 4 foot nylon straps. I slide the each strap through the legs of the hitch then lift the hitch up into the truck bed. Then I move the hitch into the gooseneck slot. This system works perfect.

I bought one of the Demco 5th wheel lifting brackets and it really works well with the same inexpensive Harbor Freight hoist. I did have to get an extension for the hoist so I could place the hitch in the right position without removing the tailgate. Because of the extension, I also have to add some counter weight to the rear of the hoist. This setup works well for me and I can install and remove the hitch without any help.

Here is a link to the lifting bracket.

If I ever decide there may be a need to remove my B&W 18K slider I'll get a set up like that as well. Would be nice to back the truck into the garage and lift from there but truck is too high or door too low.....

Where did you get your extension from? Harbor Freight?

I bought a piece of 2x2 inch steel tube from a local metals supply house and it slips into the existing extension. The existing extension is used to reinforce the boom.

I ordered the B&W Patriot 18k with bracket and rail set. So i’ll See how it goes. I am not worried about the rails being in the bed.

I towed with a 16k Patriot when we had a lighter Montana and it was a great hitch. Had to make a change when we got the 2018 3791RD only reason for selling it.

Which adapter did you buy?
