inverters

I have two inverters (750 & 1000) to power my TV but there is a hum in the audio. My question is. If I was to replace one these with a pure sine inverter does anyone think that would cure the problem? Has anyone experienced this before?

I have a pure sine wave to run my TV. There is no hum, works perfect.

Why have two small inverters? Get one good big one.

How about a little more information.
  • Does this happen with both inverters?
  • Is the TV the only thing powered by a inverter?
  • Does the hum go away when on shore power?
  • Is the 110V output of the inverter grounded?
I have used a cheap MDW inverter (can you spell Harbor Freight?) to power the TV, stereo, DirecTV, Wifi, and laptops. I have never had a hum issue (or any other issue) in the years I have done this.

Carl, how big is your inverter and do you only have it hooked up to the devices you mentioned? I have been contemplating installing an inverter.

Are you somehow connecting the two inverters together?

inverters

What I have is 3150RLand I have ran an extension cord from front cargo to TV in RL, plug cord to inverter then clip to battery. Tried inverters one at a time. The problem does not happen with generator or Shore power. What I'm trying to do is have TV at night without running generator as I' m leaving for Quartzsite the Tenth. Expect to be there the 16th. As a side note are there any change of plans where MOC will gather? My first rally.

I have a couple of small plug-in inverters but I have never used them to run a TV. They probably are too small anyway (175 watt). My inverter is hardwired which is pretty much the same 12V connection but adds a real Ground cable from the inverter to the chassis. I am at the limit of my knowledge at this point. I suspect the hum is due to a lack of a ground but I am unaware of how to do that with a portable unit like yours. A PSW unit might be worth a trial if you can get one that is returnable in case it doesn't solve the problem.

I do sympathize with your need. Quartzsite drove my decision to install an inverter for evening entertainment without a generator. But the inverter is just the first step. The TV draw will quickly delete the capacity of a single, stock, inexpensive (aka dealer installed) 12V battery. Multiple batteries will help a lot. On the other hand, generator hours at Quartzsite generally run until 10 PM although, if you have a quiet genny, your neighbors may not object to even later.

I am using a 2K watt inverter which is actually more than I need. My 3700 has a 110V circuit dedicated to the Entertainment Center which powers all the outlets for the various devices including the outlet on the back wall. I rewired that circuit to a DPDT switch so I can select the power source (Shore/Genny or Inverter).

It didn't dawn on me until after I had posted above that you are planning to use your TV in Quartzsite. Good luck with that. Q is about 100 miles as the crow flies from Phoenix. Most of the time OTA signals from there are not usable. Yuma in only about 70 miles but the signal is usually too weak. You really need satellite TV service in Q unless you have a stack of DVDs. But that just adds to the inverter issue.

There will be people in Q who are inverter literate and may be of help.

Hi

I would say itís the cord. Try running the 12V thru the cord to the inverter and plug the TV into the inverter.

Those extension cords will pickup induction from everything in the trailer.

Good to know you solved the problem. I assume you are still using the same extension cord in the same configuration so it had to be the inverter(s).

Hi

That sounds good glad you found the problem.

Our unit had the same problem without the inverter and it turned out to be Keystone had bundled the AC and DC lines together. We spent several days separating them and that fixed the problem.

inverter

Carl, Everything stayed the same so the pure sine wave inverter was the fix.
