Question for the group, hope the Op doesn’t mind.
Our 3791RD has front t stat which has a furnace setting. The rear controls both HP and furnace. So the question is, what purpose does the furnace setting have in the front unit?

It does nothing. The front unit is not wired to the furnace like the one in the kitchen. I suppose there's a way to do it, but I haven't explored it.
