A good reason to have a surge protector

We were passing through Vegas before Christmas and stopped at CW on Boulder Highway. We met a couple at CW shopping for a surge protector, but it was too late for them. The couple was at an RV Park in Henderson and while they were away from their New Cougar there was an electrical surge. AT the time of the electrical surge they didn't have surge protection, so their microwave, TV and fireplace were toasted and required replacement. To hear about their heart break made me feel sorry for them, but this issue also made us feel secure because we do have a surge protector.

That is why many of us have them. Surprising how many do not.

It just takes one surge to realized it would have been money very well spent from the start!!!

Yes, a must-have with all the electronics in these rigs.

I purchased and installed mine before I took it out camping. Excellent peace of mind and insurance. I highly recommend Progressive Industries models. Mine is hard wired so it is in use from the moment I hook up and can't be left behind.

I agree. We've had surge protectors since our first TT and EMS systems since we first bought the Monty. Still carry the last surge protector so I'll still have protection if something fries the EMS until I can replace the EMS.

Don't think its all that surprising how many don't have surge protection. How many of you with it on your Montanas have it in your S&Bs? We've had more damaging surges at home than on the road (only cost some network hardware and a lot of troubleshooting time though).

Actually for us, we added it to our first TT after getting a whole house unit for our S&B.

Upon very good advise on this very forum 8 years ago we purchase a PT -50C before we ever plugged in our First Montana. It has saved us several times and was $$ well spent.

I have a Progressive. Just was wondering - if you get a surge, something in the Progressive gets fried, right? So do you call them and get a fuse sent or what and how long are you down while waiting?
Thanks.

I have surge protection for ALL my computers, TVs and appliances at home. We get a lot of lightning here.

Progressive enjoys an excellent reputation (and is well deserved).
If your unit fries, contact them immediately. They will get you back on speed ASAP, often at little or no cost.

I installed a Progressive Hard Wired unit in ours and on one of our first nights camping we had an error message come up. Open Ground. They are expensive but well worth the cost.
