MORE 3750FL Cracks

I did an inspection of my 2011 3750FL and discovered 4 horizontal stress-like fractures on the port side of the endcap about 6" above the tail light. There's kind of a lip that runs from side to side and the fractures are on that. The trailer has never been hit so I assume that they're from stress on the fiberglass. There are 4 of them; they're interconnected and about 6" long. My fingernail catches on them when I run them across the cracks. Wierd!

My 3150 came that way from the factory ... small cracks in the same area that you describe. I had them documented and photographed before I signed the dotted line. They've never gotten any bigger in almost 3 years of use.

Sounds like gel-coat cracks that are referred to as "spider cracks" on boats. They are typically confined to the surface gel-coat area and are not structurally significant. There are repair methods available to address them if that is indeed what they are.

I think you've nailed it Bingo. They're not significant enough to repair at the moment and hopefully won't get any worse. What causes that kind of cracking?

On a boat it is usually caused by excessive heat associated with sunlight from what I have learned.

jem ... you responded to the original post dated 2013 by (moutard2) which was about surface cracks in the rear fiberglass end cap. Since it is 4 years later and you are talking about cracks in welds and frame ... you may want to start your own topic in a separate post.
