Remote

Talked to Mark Krol today. When the Hickory package went away and the Paramount package was started, it marked the end of the end of the remote for Montana's. Big Sky has the touch screen remote. High Country and Mountaineer still have theirs.

Did you pick his brain for the reason for not offering it anymore. Would be interesting to understand their thought process.

The only thing I know, is that between not having one on the previous rig and having one on the current rig, I am overjoyed with the new rig with the remote!! Would not want it any other way. In my opinion, Montana is making a mistake by not keeping the remote, regardless of model.

Or failures of control boards and the associated slew of complaints and warranty claims. A step backwards, but I am sure that in order to discontinue it, they had a valid reason. About like when they offered the wireless back-up cameras, and discontinued them midway through 2011. It was performance and warranty issues that dictated that discontinuance, so I would think they had some sort of similar issued related to the remotes. I still like ours, and if the control board dies, thankfully my extended service plan will replace it.

We'll that's just another reason they won't be able to interest us in a new Montana.

My stick house is filled full of remote controls, and I can't remember one ever failing. Not only that, replacement TV remotes ended up selling for less than $10. Is Keystone missing something, or am I?

The control board is the problem, not the remote. Even money says more than half of owners don't use it.

Maybe this would be a good discussion for the factory visit at the fall rally. I was actually thinking about getting out of RVing when Mark showed me the remote. I was hooked.

We have the first generation remote that was offered on 2009 models. Not as many functions but I don't want it to do any more than it does. It has worked flawlessly. Go back to that one. It's better than no remote at all. Do they think they will sell more Big Sky editions if they do this?

I guess we need to get used to touch screens. Most new cars out there now have touch screens. We got a new Chevy Equinox recently. Sure enough it has a large touch screen. It does make for more functions and is easier to use. The same thing is happening in the shop. A lot of tools are going to a screen control. A lot of theses screens have been popping up in the past two years.

I think I remember at the factory tour some discussion of whether the remote is necessary or not. I think it is "add something here, take away something their" in order to control cost.

The new remote for the new Big Sky may not have all the functions that the old one has by looking at a picture of it.

I am assuming the touchscreen is mounted inside. If so this will never be as handy as the remote. May have more functions but still not as handy

Charlie, from what I have heard, it is a true remote, something along the lines of an i-phone. I have yet to see one though and very possibly could be wrong. I like the smaller size of ours because I can attach it to the keyring for the rig, keys and remote all in one place.

It does look similar to an IPhone.
