Plan to replace old tv with hdtv. Will the hdtv's work with a cable system that provides analog signal?

The Sylvania I got with my 5er is a hdtv and it works with both analog and digital. Many campgrounds still have analog cable and all 'over the air' used to be analog. My hdtv worked for all the analog and digital signals it got put to it.

We recently changed our bedroom tv to hdtv and do not have a problem. The wire (cable) is coax and it has the capability to carry analog or digital signals. The analog vs digital depends on the source and isn't affected by the existing wire (cable)as long as the wire has the capability to carry the signal. The coax in the Montana is capable of carrying either signal. When we are hooked up to the campground cable TV system we get many more channels than we did with our older analog only tv. We changed to the flat screen to free up the storage behind the tube tv- now we can carry a lot of extra junk that we could do without, but still want to carry.

It will work, but with a degraded signal, old resolution. However, when you switch over to the on-air antenna for local news, etc. it should be in high-def.

Bingo and Cathy - Our adventures begin in the hills of WV. We are blessed by our 2014 3850FL Big Sky (previous 2011 3750FL and 2007 3400RL) that we pull with a 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic DRW CC dually.

Cable signals are being broadcast in digital format, that is one of the reasons we get more and more cable signals. The same with Satellite signals, they are in digital format also. The tv's of today are basically "plug-n-play" televisions. The tv that you purchase will have a menu selection in the set up that will allow you to scan for cable or analog tv signals. Sometimes, both. At present, all the digital broadcast signals over the air, are in a channel identifier format of 2.1, 4.1, 6.1, etc, while the analog signal maintain the 2, 4, 6 format.

The quality of cable and satellite signals no where near compare to that of over the air digital broadcast signals. Well, at least not in our RV. The OTA digital signals are by far superior in quality to cable or satellite. I posted in another thread about plugging you antenna into the back of your satellite dish (may work for cable box also) and choosing your channel using your satellite guide. You first have to scan for local channels in the satellite menu.

More info, if needed.

I am sure MOST cable systems broadcast in digital, but not all do. We live in a semi rural area and the old cable system available to us is still analog. But it does work on HDTVs, just not a great picture.
We use DISH now.

Get a satellite dish. You will want all the HD you can get if the screen is 32 inches or bigger.
