changing from King to Queen bed

Hi all we have an 07 3400RL and were wondering if anyone has swapped the King for a Queen mattress. I wanted to know if any mods need to be done to the bed frame/plywood or not? I did a search but couldn't find anything specific to answer my question.

We are wanting to upgrade the mattress and thought a queen would give us some more "walk around" room.

Thanks,

Phil

Phil, we made the change on our 09 3400RL from the King size to queen.
We cut both sides of the plywood base equally to arrive at 60 inches wide. We did not reduce length as both mattreses are the same. Installed a good quality queen mattress and now we do not have any problems getting between the bed and closet. Also there is not problem or interference when bedroom slide is closed. Hope this helps.

Hello Phil,

We do not have the 3400 but the 3075 RL. About the first thing we did was get rid of the King mattress and bought a good queen instead. We found the extra space was great and a good mattress even better.

All we did was cut the plywood board the mattress is on down to size. Used a saber saw and it took about 5 minutes. In our case there was more than enough overhang on the top plywood so we still had about an inch on each side remaining over the sides of the bed box.

You may want to measure the top to be sure you can cut enough.

Hope it works for you.

Dean

Same here we changed from a king to a queen in our 2955RL. Simple to do, just cut the plywood down to the size you need. I think I cut the plywood down to about 1" less than the queen mattress on each side.
The plywood at the head of the bed that stayed fixed was less in width than the plywood portion that lifted. It appears the factory just adds width for a king mattress to the plywood that lifts.

Only a few months before we traded our 2002 Cedar Creek for our 2009 3455SA we bought a new really comfortable Queen Mattress. So, the deal was the dealer kept the King and put our Queen in its place. We could not believe how much more room only about 9 inches in width gave us. Was as simple as cutting down the plywood platform partial sides as the others have said. Well worth the effort. We are positive this mattress will hold up so much better then whatever they can provided.

When we bought ours it came with a King we didn't want we had always ahd a Queen. the dealer switched it out with one other on the lot and then the spread didn't match so he ordered one for the Queen bed. Love the extra room.

Likewise Phil, we really appreciate the extra "walk around" room that the queen bed affords us. And the upgraded mattress is a must, well worth the little effort to modify the platform.

This is my lucky day! We also replaced our king bed with a queen as soon as we bought our 2008 Everest, and really enjoy the extra room, plus being able to use our existing bedding. Here is my question: Since I now have about 7 inches on each side of the head of the bed, I want to put in nightstands like many of the Montana models have. I suspect that there are Montana owners whose rigs came with queen beds who decided to change them to kings. Sooooo --- what did they do with their now orphaned nightstands? I would dearly love to adopt a couple of them!

Phil, We have the same rig as you. We used the King for awhile but it was very uncomfortable. When we sold the house started full-timing, we took the Queen from in the house and put it in the Montana. I just did like the others and cut down the platform board. In the extra room on the sides by the headboard I put wine holders. The main concern I had was the length, but it works fine when the slides come in.

Phil, we converted from a queen to a king. I took my shelf off, the wife wanted her side left on. I used mine for a shelf on the microwave side panel by the stove... Sorry...

Remember that the bed in an RV is 3" or 4" shorter that what you have in a stick built.

we have an 07 md. 3295 and cutting the PW to fit a queen bed was the first thing we did. the mattress comes up to the cabinets when the slide is in.
