new 3400

Hi everyone. We have been lurking on this forum for about 2 years now because we knew the Montana was the 5th wheel for us and boy have we learned alot. Sold the house, bought the truck..a 3500 dodge dually and a 2009 10th anniv. Montana 3400. We are going full time and are heading for the Oregon coast next week for a month of camp hosting. Can hardly wait. We do have one question..why is the black water drain pipe 11/2 inch and the gray water drain pipe 3inches? Seems it should be the other way around.
Thanks for all the great info on this forum

Don and Judy

It should be the other way round. Are you sure yours is this way?

Yes we are sure. Don was underneath checking things out and saw it and then back under again to make sure. Guess we will be calling the dealer tomorrow.

Usually, the black and grey tanks are side by side, and drain into a common 3" drain line. Each tank has its own valve located at the tank outlet. The galley tank is usually a separate 1-1/2" line that tees into the 3" line near the outlet. Having said that, I acknowledge that there are many variations in the construction of Montanas, but in all cases, the black tank definitely should be 3".

I have the Big Sky 340 RLQ which is the same basic floor plan as your 3400. The 1-1/2" drain you see is your washer discharge tying directly into the 3" black/gray tank drain. The union of the black and gray tanks occurs above the belly cover.

Are you sure you are not confusing the galley tank line for the blank tank line? The gray and black tanks connect together into a 3" pipe and the galley tank is a 1 1/2" pipe. The drain valve handle for the galley is located near the wheels.

Thank myou all so much for the quick info.
Stiles it was the washer drain Don was looking at. So now all is well again. Other than that we really love the Montana and think we will be quite happy calling it home.

Thanks again
Don and Judy

Don and Judy, Welcome to the world of wanderlust. We bought our 3400 in '06 and left Alaska in '07. Sold all we had obtained over 39 years. Our first foray into full timing was spent with a lot of time up the Oregon coast with my sister and BIL in their Fleetwood 5er. We have been 'On the Road' every since and absolutely love it. If you had asked me two years ago if I would ever be at 'The Grand Ole Opry' in Nashville, TN, I would have said hell no. But here we are. Happy travels and see you on the road!!!! BTW: Great choice in floor plans.....

Congratulations, Don & Judy. Enjoy your travels!! We are hoping to join the ranks of fulltimers soon, as soon as our house sells. we just listed it last week, but with the current economic situation, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and leave it to fate!! Sadly, we just brought our 3400 Monty back from Door County, Wisconsin (Sturgeon Bay) where we had it all summer and went up on weekends, along as our week-long summer vacation in August. Now it's time to winterize it and store it until we can call it home!

Good luck in your travels...

Thank you all for the warm welcome and help to figure out those drain pipes.
Itaves sure hope your home sells quick.we sold ours to our daughter and son-in-law otherwise I am sure we would still be sitting on it.
Thank you all again.
