traded 2955 for new 3400rl

Last week we stumbled upon a 3400rl built in Sept/06 with the equipment we were looking for and at the right price.
Our new 3400 does not have they LCD tv, nor the 7000 lb axles but those two things we could live without. Because we live in Canada and the exchange rate hasn't been good lately it would have been over $6000.00 more to order a new one with the same eqipment. Last fall, when this one was built, our Canadian dollar was at record high values against the American buck and the exchange rate can make or break you when you are importing a product.
Our new unit includes the Ventian Gold, w/d prep., fireplace, central vac., alum. wheels, hi-gloss fiberglass and dual pane windows. ALL these decisions were made easy with the valueable information gleaned from all of you on this forum, Thank-you all.
The only thing we won't miss about the 2955 is the hide-a-bed blocking the door when friends/family stay over.

Congratulations DarMar!

I really learned to dislike that bed blocking the door in our 2955 as well. But once I try to fit this extra wide and extra long 3400 in some of the places I used to go, the blocked door may not seem so bad!

Congratulations on your new unit. Having a 2955 I can understand some of its shortcomings. However we plan on spending another summer in it in Uxbridge,Ma. It worked fine a year ago and we didn't get crossed up with each other, so I guess we can do another summer. ENJOY your new unit

Congrats. on the 3400 purchase. I know that you will love the new unit. I just returned from looking at our 3400 to see how it faired from the winter, it looks great. No leals and no mice that I could see. Follow your dreams and enjpy it to the hilt.

Congrats on the new purchase. I really like the floor plan of the 3400. I have the 3655 and it doesn't work for us very well but we deal with it. My daughter likes to take friends with her and the sleeping arrangements for more then her can be difficult. It was one of those where the wife really really liked it so......that's what we bought. I would like to have the open living area in the back so we could throw an air mattress or blankets on the floor and have plenty of room. I'm thinking of selling ours so I can buy another floor plan that would work better. Easier said then done.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes, we are eager to move in to our new Monty and get a feel for how this new model fits our lifestyle. We are sure it will offer many likes and some dislikes as well.

As bsmeaton(Brad) stated on another thread we need to be sensative to other family members buying decisions and that basically we don't need negative model opions. I made a comment about the hide a bed on our old 2955 model and must apologize if I offended anyone with that comment, it was not meant to be a negative but rather a statement of why we most wanted to trade for a new model based on our lifestyle. Believe me I would still reccommend a model 2955 to anyone and quite frankly the length and overall size was a real positive!

Thanks, DarMar, for your gracious comments. I, for one, was in no way offended. I would say exactly the same thing about the way the hide-a-bed blocks access. Still, the 2955 remains our choice. We have considered trading to other Montana models and to several other brands, but always come back to the fact the our 2955 really suits our particular traveling style. The reason we have not traded for a newer model of the 2955 remains the lack of true separation doors between the bedroom and bath in the later models.

Best wishes for your continuing Montana travels!

Excellent point as well David, the privacy doors of the previous year models of any kind are another real positive and we will definately be doing a curtain of some type between the queen bed and wardrobe in our new unit. We felt we could adapt to a curtain and separation is a must. All models, all years of Montanas have their good and bad points.
