Carlsbad Caverns NM?

Any ideas of a good campground near Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico? Hope to be there next week.

Thanks for any thoughts.

If I remember correctly, the campground we stayed at was at White City.

Dick, as far as commercial campgrounds go, I'm only aware of the one in White City and the KOA about 20 miles north of Carlsbad. There may be others. We have a lifetime lease on a lot at the Escapees RV Club campground called The Ranch in Lakewood, NM which is about 5 - 6 miles north of the KOA. I have no idea how good the KOA is but it seems to do a pretty good business.

We stayed at the KOA last March when we were in the area and found it to be a very nice park. Unfortunately it is a long round trip to the caverns. White City looked closed when we went by there and that was right before Easter when the other RV Parks were full or close to it.

If you are a Passport America member, there are a couple of CG in their network. One has no limit on days for the half price fee. It is Carlsbad RV Park and Campground. Half price is $17.00 + 3.00 for 50 amp.

Carlsbad Rv Park is located on the south end of town and alot closer to the caverns than the KOA-- it is not great and wonderful but is OK for few nights--it is easy to get in and out of and not far from Walmart--those two are about your only options although there are others listed on the web--last summer the RV Park at White's City was closed--

Dick,
If you're interested in boon docking there is BLM land nearby. You will be turning off 62 onto hwy 7 that goes to Carlsbad Caverns. Shortly after you turn onto hwy 7 you can turn right onto BLM land. Ask at Whites and you can get local directions. Have fun,
John

Dick,

We stayed at the Carlsbad RV park too. It wasn't great, some dust, but the management were real nice people. KOA was too far out, and White City looks and feels like the local dump, we heard bad things about it before we got to Carlsbad.

We left Windmill RV Park two days ago. It is just down the road and owned by Carlsbad RV Park. It is a PPA also. We didn't make reservations and Carlsbad was full. Not a bad park but not a 5 star either.

Thanks everyone for you help. We arrived (with reservations) at Carlsbad RV and will spend 4 nights here before heading out.

Will try and take a drive by of Whites and report back.

Thanks again,
Dick
