Even 5 years may be too long today

Drove from Deming, NM to Odessa, TX on I-10 and then I-20. Even with IS we had stuff flying around in the rig we never have had move. There were a ton of really bad holes I just couldn't miss, either because of traffic or just that they were completely across the lane. MudChief and I have each had a 6 year old 614 blow out on us this year. With the damage the roads are doing now days, I'm not sure I'm going to trust these new tires to make it to 5 years.

Maybe there is hope. If we live long enough. We have been driving I-35 from Dallas area to near Austin for the last 48 years to our hunting cabin. And have seen it go from a good highway to an awful highway in some sections. But over the last 10 years they have been completely rebuilding it a few miles at a time. Those rebuilt areas are pretty incredible. Added extra lanes and really smooth concrete. Makes for a pleasant drive. In a few more years, they should have that complete highway rebuilt. Probably just about the time I will not be able to drive it any more.

But I can only imagine how many hundreds of millions of dollars that one highway has already cost.

This must be the Federal plan to improve the economy. Bad roads create income and jobs for the economy.

I remember when I81 was built. It was just over a hill from a friend's house. The friend had a HD 55 Ford pickup and we needed money, gas money. I could work all day hauling pulp wood for $5 or we could sell a load of interstate top soil for $10. Which do you think we did? We were loading the pickup one day and a state trooper came along. We kept loading like we were working on the road, he paid no attention to us and kept on going. And you thought crime didn't pay. Ha Ha

Yup, but look up what the tax rates were back then. The money had to come from somewhere!

Yep Walt I think that's the problem. Road taxes haven't kept up with inflation, at least in our state of Va.

We have the tires on both the truck and the Montana closely inspected every year by our Goodyear dealer.

In Kansas they've stolen the road money to try and make up for the mess they've made of the Kansas economy.

I've thought about this a lot. We live much better than our parents. We just have more. My parents could hardly afford an old car now we have campers, cars and trucks heat and AC in our homes and lots more but we don't pay enough taxes keep up our country. Besides that we have left our children 20 trillion dollars in debt. What would our parents think of that? Not much I suspect.

I'm not sure what we call living better is better. Our parents 'GREATEST GENERATION' wasn't called that for nothing. Sometimes we use the materialistic things in life to measure how well we live.If you have good health then you have everything.

I agree with you. I'm 70 and feel like 30. My mind says I can do anything I did when I was young and my body says are you out of your mind. I have a great family. What more could I ask for?.

Your thread more or less promoted me to to replace my G614's this past thursday. Mine were going on 7 years old on my 2008 3400RL . I know I was pushing my luck.

Leaving for Arizona next week, and from some of the roads I was on there last winter, that and California, no way I wanted to chance those old tires

Maybe time to give those Sailuns a try? That's what I'm going to do soon!

Too many fingers in the PIE. Money mismanagement, and corruption in Government.
