bedroom Air Conditioner 2nd unit
I have a 2018 Montana High Country, 310re, they tell me it is wired for a 2nd ac unit, I wanted to know if it is ducted or no duct. I want to purchase an ac unit for this spot but Camping World wants to charge me $1,600.00 to purchase and install and my husband thinks that is way too much.
What does anyone else put in for the second unit.

It will not be not ducted. On our last camper I installed the bedroom a/c myself dealer wanted 1300.00. Super easy to do remove vent drop in new unit and connect two wires paid 550.00 for new unit

We had the 2nd a/c installed about 3 years ago. It was $1100.00 for the air and install. The price will depend on the make and model you are putting in.
I wasn't sure if ours could be ducted, but it was.
Our thermostat had 2 zones, so it was a easy install. Nothing extra had to be bought. Everything was there.
It was worth every penny..

CW just installed a non-ducted 13.5K in my neighbor's Cougar for under $900. His Cougar was wired for the 2nd. My 2017 HC came from the factory with the bedroom AC. They are prewired and mine IS ducted in the bedroom as well but can be dumped too.

Although our 310RE is set up to take a ducted AC, I am going with non-ducted when I get around to adding one in the bedroom, the reason being that I think the ducts are already undersized for the single AC. Also, I want to be able to run only the bedroom AC for times when the front of the trailer (which is black) is pointing towards the sun (two zones). We will also get the strip heat option to help take the chill off in the winter. Installation should be easy for someone with average mechanical skills (do a youtube search), but the units are just over 100# so unless your husband is built like Arnold (in his younger years) he will need help getting it up on the roof.

The heat strip is installed inside the unit so when the fan is on and the heat strip is active - you get heated air coming from the system.
Most AC units have the place to put the strip

Yes, the heat strip is internal to the a/c unit. However, I would pass on a heat strip. It puts out the same heat as a space heater. Plus you have the blower noise. OR spend the money and get a heat pump/a/c.
We use the fireplace in the back and a Vornado (brand) space heater in the bedroom. The Vornado is very quite. Plus you can move it around if need be.

X2 on that. We have heat pumps on both AC's (someone must have installed the wrong unit since we're only supposed to have one) but use the fireplace and a space heater because we want heat coming from the floor up, not the ceiling down.

My HC AC in the bedroom is ducted and on a separate thermostat with the furnace. The living room thermostat controls the heat pump. We run the bedroom unit on dump until bed time. Then the quietness of the ducted method is appreciated. Also, the ability to cool the rest of the 5er should the main AC go down is nice.
