winter cover

Some ppl say they never cover their rv in the winter. Up here in NY we covered our RV just because of the heavy snow. Who covers their RV and who doesn’t? Why?

In the early days I did. No longer. Covers don't last, tear, and can cause damage, particularly when the winds pick up. I have stored units in both Colorado and South Dakota without a cover thru the winter months with no damage to the fiver. Did put covers on the AC units. In places like Florida where the sun is a killer in the summer months, I probably would consider getting back to using a cover.

We full time now, but before we did we never covered ours in the Kansas wind, snow and cold. With the amount of wind we get the cover won't last and probably do more damage to the rig than help anything.

I live in upstate NY, and have NEVER covered mine. Main reason? Well, when you see all those nice RV's parked in the dealer lots year after year, NONE of them are covered. RV's are made to for the elements. Many are sold as 4 season living. I believe the covers are just a big gimmick for the cover companies. My father used to cover his, and every spring, he spent hours waxing and buffing the damage caused by the cover rubbing on the surface of the unit. If you do the regular roof maintenance, and check your seals like you are supposed to, they will last through the weather.. save your money

The better option is to move your retirement up, come south in the winter and continue camping.
