US 87, NW Texas?

Long time member, haven't posted in a while, but...

Assuming the weather is OK...

We'll be traveling from Colorado Springs to Crowell, TX, the week after the game in AZ (uh, Supervowl).

Anyone been over US 87, North of Dalhart, TX recently?? I understand there's about 10 miles of construction going on there???

We're headed to Comanche Springs Astronomy Campus, part of the Three Rivers Foundation, about 10 miles SW of Crowell, for 3 days/nights of some serious stargazing. (Weather permitting)

We were over that highway from Dalhart to Raton, NM in September. There was some construction, but it was NO PROBLEM. I cannot speak of any development since September of 2007, but if that is the same kind of construction, it did not slow us down at all.

As a general rule, construction on Texas Highways usually provides alternate lanes so traffic can keep flowing.

We also traveled it in Sept. The only part that was any bother at all was the 2-3 miles just out of Raton where they are rebuilding some bridges and detour you around them. But even that was not bad. There are some fairly long stretches of low speed limits (45 I think) thru some other construction areas. But the construction was in the building of new lanes adjacent to the existing lanes and really did not affect traffic.

Thanks very much - one less thing to worry about on the trip.

Now if the weather will hold....
