Max trailer length in South Carolina

Have a new map that shows maximum trailer lengths in the US. According to this map, the max trailer length in South Carolina is 35' unless you have a "special permit". As everyone is aware, our 3400 is a few feet longer than 35'. Has anyone had a problem with this max length issue in South Carolina? Does anyone know anything re the "special permit"?

Thanks,

Bill

If that is trailer length, you're fine. Remember, about 3-4 feet of the overall length of your rig is in the box of the truck. I don't know anything about a special permit but you shouldn't need it. I've been in SC and my righ is 36 ft.

Where did you get the map? Is it postable? If so I am sure we would all love to see it. Thanks Kathi

Well, as most people here know, the 3295 is fairly close t0 36'. That is our model and we camp in South Carolina all of the time. I routinely see units that long or longer.

Hi, Kathi ...

The map came from the Good Sam Club.

Pasted below is the response I received from Good Sam Club re the issue of a 35' maximum trailer length in South Carolina. My initial email is at the bottom.

Bill
.................................................. ..................

Thank you for contacting the Good Sam Club regarding towing. The towing laws that are listed applies to trucks as well. The maximum feet in South Carolina for towing is 35 feet.

We hope that you find this information helpful. Should you need further assistance or have any other questions, please contact us at info@goodsamclub.com or 1-800-234-3450 Monday through Friday 5:30 AM to 7:30 PM, and Saturday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Mountain Time.

Sincerely,

COMMENTS:
I recently recieved the Good Sam Club's RVers Planning Map. On the rear of the map is a table that showsvarious limits, etc. for CARS Towing Trailers. My first question is whether the information in the table applies to pick-up trucks as well as cars? Second question: in the table, it says that the maximim length of trailer permitted without permit in South Carolina is 35 feet. Could you confirm that the 35 foot limit printed on your map is correct?

Thanks

Wordsmith, yours is about the same as ours and ours measures 36' 4" stem to stern.

We've been through SD a number of times and never been stopped or asked about the length.

---edited-- oops, make that SC.

I have sent an email to Good Sam Club asking for the specific reference in the South Carolina Statutes that establishes this restriction. Several people have looked and cannot find it. Will post their reply.
