Recall Montana Jan 16 - Feb 18

I just read this in RVTRAVEL issue578

Keystone is recalling 438 model year 2013 Montana fifth wheels manufactured between Jan. 16 and Feb. 18 and 2013 Fuzion fifth wheel vehicles manufactured between Jan. 22 and Feb. 18, 2013. The vehicles have Progressive Dynamics power converters with serial number prefix A13014 through A13039. The converters have internal components that may short circuit and cause a fire. Dealers will provide a free fix. Learn more from Keystone at 866-425-4369 (recall number is 13-191).

Extremely important to know! Sounds like a serious recall.

It seems there is some regularity to the electrical based recalls, which are usually caused or contributed to by loose connections. Since this is internal, I would think it is a replacement issue with regards to the converter therefore should be handled by the dealer to be safe. We can still use this as a reminder to check and tighten all of the electrical connections that are accessible. We had a melt-down on our water heater because of a loose connection, and I remember a couple of recalls centered around loose connections as well. Simply put, if you have the knowledge and ability, it should be part of your regular maintenance routine to tighten connections (converter, batteries, ems systems, switches, breaker panels, fuse panels, etc, etc.).

Thanks Bingo. I had a similar thought in the back of my head for when we open the campground next month. Now with your comment, the connection check will defiantly take place. All those good tid bits of advice are sure welcome and I for one take notice of them. Happy Trails, Steve and Susie
