More Tire Troubles

Just had our second flat of this trip. Unfortunately our TST sensor for that tire had stopped transmitting shortly before. Every once in a while our TST will lose contact with one or two sensors then start working again. Hopefully I will find a Kumho dealer in Gallup, NM tomorrow morning.

Are you still running on the Carlisle E tires? If so, I suggest you replace all of them!

Ron,

There is a Tire Pros dealer in Gallup that may have what you are looking for. If he doesn't have it he can steer you in the right direction or possibly have it Monday.

Ron, how old is your TST? Are the batteries low? I wonder why it doesn't work for you.

New Michelin Ribs being put on the Big Sky. This is my third set of tires in one year. The Carlisles were junk and the sidewalks came apart. The only tire place open in Iowa had Kumho's. With two flats on one trip I was getting Paranoid. My TST system is only a month old. I can stand next to the tire and not get a reading. Seems like it loses synch with the unit. No injuries and no damage to the Big Sky, so it could have been much worse.

Ron,
Ref the TST loosing signal. Are you using the rubber duck or the "T" antenna. If the Rubber duck hook up the T and mount it up on your sun visor.

Sorry about the tire problems.

Ron, we feel your pain over tires. We experienced similar problems and finally went to the Goodyears. Hope all is well now.

I was going to swap the New Kumho from last week's problem and put it on as a spare. Unfortunately, it is already separating. Good thing I got them changed out. I am waiting on a response from TST on our issue with sensors quitting.

You wou think by now, that Keystone would have corrected ALL the tire problems!
Missions are long gone by now..now we start with another brand.

Roy-- Ron had problems over in Iowa earlier and had to have this brand of tires put on over here near Omaha but now he's had problems with these new ones. Not good!
Ron- You don't by chance have a bent axle do you? Can't believe you've got on your third set now in less than a year! I'd be smart and say you need to lighten your load but I know better than that so I won't!! At least there was no damage! Let us know what you find out on the pressure monitors also! See you when you get near Omaha!

There are no Michelin XPS RIB tires made that will meet the minimum requirements for your 7000# axles. Your Carlisle tires were rated at 3640#. The Goodyear G614 is the tire of choice for your axles. Its rated at 3750#, more than 700# above the Michelin's and 250# above your minimum axle requirement.

As long as I don't load to the 7000 lbs I should be fine. I believe the Michelin is rated to 3042 each. I noticed that the Michelin is running about 88 psi hot (in 104 deg ambient temp). The Kumho's were at 96 psi hot. Whether the Carlisles were rated at 3600 lbs or not, the entire sidewalls on all 4 deteriorated in a month.

The DOT requires all axles on RV trailers to have tires that at the very minimum equal the load capacity of the axle. In other words, tires on the 7000# axle must be rated at 3500# each.

Ron, We put the Michelin on our Big Sky after our 1st blow out on the Carlisle but contacted Michelin when we got home (about 10 miles)... Michelin told us they do not recommend that we use their tires on the Big Sky... After much research, we went back to the Carlisle but ordered the F range at 3960 # and 95 PSI. We were also told by Carlisle to not under inflate them as that is what holds them on the rims.. Since the new tires were installed we have put on about 10,000 miles and they are looking like the day we bought them. " Knock on wood." We are about to set out on another long trip to the West Coast and then south the long way around to Florida.

Good luck on whichever you choose.
