Water pressure regulator

I have a 2011 Big Sky 3580RL. I use a 40 lb regulator on the fresh water hose to the RV and the inside pressure in the shower and the kitchen is very low. My daughter and her husband can be set up right next to me and have plenty of pressure. Does my RV have a built in regulator or do I need to get a new in line regular with a gauge that can be set to a higher pressure? What pressure can the newer RV's handel?

You don't have a pressure problem and I wouldn't increase the pressure in the trailer for fear of causing a leak. I believe that there are flow restrictors in the faucet and shower head. Someone should be along to tell you how to deal with them.

We full time and have a regulator that I set at 75-80 psi. Works fine. Most RV parks pressure is something less than that. The RV industry tests the units at over 100 psi just to make sure they don't leak (that's what I understand) so going over 40 p;si is no problem. The reason they specify using a 40 psi regulator is they know it's perfectly safe at that pressure.

Some regulators restrick the flow to control the pressure. We got a Watts Regulator that could be adjusted, but it gave us the flow that we needed and the pressure is still set at 40lbs.

Check your pressure at the faucet, then you'll know if the the problem is the pak or the RV.

Two things I did which worked very well - went to a 50lb regulator, and bought an Oxygenator shower head - best investment I have ever made!

As mentioned about it can be several things or all of the above. Just like in the stick house your faucets have screens and flow restrictors that can be removed and cleaned or just removed. You can buy regulators at RV stores that use up to 55# as their set point. Those RV type regulators can and do fail so it's worth it to try your daughters on your faucet and see if it makes a difference. Also regulators, splitters, softeners and filters can and will all restrict your flow to a certain extent depending on how they are constructed. One more thing that has happened to us is that we had our set up arranged so that the regulator was right on the campgrounds faucet. They had a back flow preventer on it and we had a funnel shaped screen on our regulator. The screen poked a part of the back flow preventer and restricted the flow at that point. I don't know but it sure don't seem like you get the pressure inside as you do outside at the campground faucet. The only time where we had good pressure was at a KOA where I hooked up staight to the faucet where it had real strong pressure and flow. I have cleaned all the screens and checked all the lines I can get to but anytime you try and restrict the flow it really lowers the flow at the inside faucets. I have tried 3 different RV pressure restrictors. I am going to buy a household type pressure restrictor and try it. Even with an oygenics shower head it just piddles out and at the bathroom sink it also just dribbles. The bad thing is if you get somewhere that has low pressure to begin with then it is even worse.

By in large the RV pressure regulators don't do a good job of letting volume thru. We use a household type we bought from the water filter store.

I have never been to a campground (and we all have been to alot!)either that had enough pressure to hurt anything also tried a couple of different regs and did not like any of them ,I just go without and never had a problem in 10 years of RVING, JUST my expereience

Looks pretty straightforward to me. If you do not have good pressure when NOT using the regulator, then the problem is someplace in your system and should be troubleshot by process of elimination. Some campgrounds require some type of regulator. I prefer one with a gauge that is adjustable and saw if calcium up once.

I haven't used a regulator in years. When I bought the first MOntana in 2003, I asked about pressure regulators and the dealer told me that although they include one with the "care" package they give away with new units, I should just store it because the new coaches don't require them. The water lines can take more pressure than most all parks can provide. I've found this to be true.
There have been several posts on this subject, and usually the solution is clearing clogged screen in the faucet.
