Yup silicone works great and there is no risk of cracking the plastic fender skirt from over tightening and no risk of long term stress leading to plastic failing.

Spend a couple of dollars and purchased some of the speed nuts and placed them on all of the fender screws, really feels good to be nice and tight. I think I may just apply some silicone too. I am sure glad that I am not the only one with loose fenders!

Just got back from Yellowstone yesterday with the same issues. I am fortunate that I noticed the issue when I stopped to stretch and look over the rig since this was the first trip over a couple of hundred miles. I lost one screw on each side and two more were loose on each side. Lucky and happy I did not lose the parts on I-90. I was going to pickup some machines screws and nylon lock nuts until I stumbled upon this thread. The dealer is sending me new screws and I will pickup the spring nuts at local home improvement center and use a dab or two of silicone as well. Thanks MOC for the perfect timing tips.

Our new Monty was delivered with three missing screws. Obviously stripped out when installed. Our dealer had a piece of 5/8" wide, 2mm thick stock aluminum and shot the screws through the aluminum, then cut between the screw holes so that you would have about an inch long piece of aluminum with a screw hole in it. Then put the aluminum "tabs" on the back side of the fender skirt and then tightened. So far I've had to do four more. Simple and effective.

Careful when tightening the screws/bolts. On my Mountaineer the indentation where the bolts go does not fit up flush with the body. So as you tighten then, it presses the fender down to the body and eventually cracks. At least it did on mine. I used some washers to shim it up so it could be tight without stressing the fender.

I think they are no. 8. I put machine screws with nuts but I think this is a better idea.

I used stainless steel bolts with stainless steel flat washers on front and back with stainless steel lock washers.No more problems ever.

I put Silicone on the treads, this removed the possibility of over- tightening and cracking stuff, and, now the're waterproof as well

PLIERS WITH SPEED NUTS!!! Use pliers to hold them if you use a drill, or buy band-aids..

OK, here is the real fix you should do. On our first trip we saw the fender flapping in the wind. When we stopped the screw was not even there, so we grabbed one of the ones in the middle and replaced it. Then when I got to a hardware store, I drilled out the hole for a 10-32 machine screw, then using 1/4" washers, and used 10-32 "Nylock" nuts on the back side. They are the aircraft nuts with nylon in them, that won't let the screw loosen ever again. So I did it to all my fender screws. Total cost about $20 for bolts, washers, and aircraft, "Nylock" nuts

Did you buy stainless bolts or at least painted? If not won't they be a rusty mess in a few months?

Yes of course I bought stainless steel 10-32 pan head Phillips machine screws, and st stl washers, and then I touched them up with the touch up paint they gave me. Always use st stl on projects that will be out doors.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I bought the speed nuts and when I tried to install them, I was unable to see most screws on back side of fender?
