switching to disc brakes?
I am thinking of switching to disc brakes on my 2011 3400. Who did you use to do this? What brand brakes did you go to? What was the cost? Are you happy with the up grade?

Had my "08 3400RL upgraded to disc at MorRyde a few years ago from a rally special. It was the same year that Lippert offered the $2800 special for the Level Up. I don't remember the brand but I would never be without them again. Big difference and worth the investment. Just wish I had done the complete package with the IS.

MorRyd did ours also along with the IS on a Rally special. If we ever have to buy a new rig will be having it done again. Like Dick I also can't remember the brand.

With or without the IS upgrade, you can get either Dexter or Kodiak disc brakes. Not sure, but I believe the Kodiak uses GM pads.

Bought mine at the 2014 Houston RV Show $1525.00 for kit utilizes Kodiak calipers, rotors and a Titan actuator, had installed by local Mechanic for $700.00. 2nd best upgrade I ave had done on our 2011 3100RL right behind Level-UP. BIG difference in stopping performance.

As was mentioned, the Kodiak uses a readily available GM disc pad. The Dexter unit uses a Dexter specific pad that costs a wee bit more and is not nearly as easy to obtain if you're in need of it in a hurry.

Hi
I checked on this a couple of years ago. The disk brake system was attractive price wise until I told them I was using a GM product for the TV. The cost of the converter to make the GM controller work with the system was almost as much as the disk brake system.
Does anyone know if this is still the case?

It wasn't with my 2006 with the Tekonsha Brake controller or my 2015 with the GM integrated brake controller, but your truck may have a different system. Give MorRyde a call and ask them.

MorRyde IS and Kodiak Hydraulic/Electric Disk brakes. I did not trust the suspension system handling an extra 40% of breaking torque.
Made the trip to Alaska and back with no problems. I did add 17.5 rims and "H" rated G114 tires.
Safe travels.

Does the Kodiak 7K disc conversion fit Dexter 6K axles? Mine has an 8 bolt pattern and Kodiak shows a 6 bolt pattern for the 6K axle.

Latest Trailer Life has an article about Titan disc brake upgrade and mentioned that Titan has kits for most trailers and 8 lug as well as 6 lug. John

I installed Kodiak brakes on my 6k axle from Etrailer P/n K2HR712 they are for 8 lug 1/2 studs with a Actulink 1600 Actuator. I have a 09 3000rk. Best investment I have made.
