Excessive insurance rate increase

We just reviewed our insurance renewal with National General, Good Sam's carrier. Our rates are going up $65.00/month, from $263/mo. to $328/mo. for the next year. That's now almost $3900.00/year for my F350 and Big Sky. I see in the archives that others have experienced ridiculous increases with other insurance companies.

Is this increase in line with all other insurance rates? Are there any other companies that offer better rates? We are full timers so our insurance has to be similar to homeowners rather than just auto insurance.

We carry Progressive on both of our vehicles and the Monty and haven't experienced any rate increases like you. Have had full coverage on the car and truck for the last 4 years and full replacement on our campers since 2005 and have been happy with them. We pay in the ballpark of 750/yr on the camper. Got a quote from Good Sam when we bought the Montana and had to laugh at them. They wanted $2500/yr to insure. Said the high rate was because we live in Kentucky! Tim

I am with Good Sam and with my new 3582rl I paid $475.00 for the first with full replacement. My car and truck is with enisurance and for both it is about $1,050.00 per year. Now I am in AZ so that may be the difference. Also I just had a clame ( cracked windshield) on the truck and it was handled fast. In AZ they requior full glass coverage so replacement is covered. All of this being said I do take the time EACH year to check with several insurance company's on their pricing.

We use USAA for vehicles and Progressive for the boat and RV. Progressive rates are very good and they are easy to work with. My 2015 is $550 s year, and includes a payout of $80K cash if our rig gets totaled. We have had our boats insured with them for 15 years, and USAA has a business relationship with Progressive since they do not carry boat or RV insurance which probably plays a role in the pricing for me, since I have been with USAA since 1968. I certainly would recommend checking with Progressive. I like them.

We use progressive for the car and truck and Blue Sky for the full timers insurance and rig coverage. We're not paying what your paying so I would check around.

We switched everything to Progressive when we sent full time. We were only going to change for the Montana, but Progressive beat our old insurance company on our truck and another vehicle by about 35% and gave us much better coverage. For the 2012 F350 and 2014 Montana we are paying just under $1,800 per year. What we like about Progressive is that we can do everything online.

My premiums through Good Sam almost doubled in two years. When I called they said that everyone in Texas got a rate increase. I cancelled and went with Allied which gave me a lower premium, better coverage and a one year policy. Plus I got agreed value instead of book value.

Our 2010 Montana 3665RE was with Progressive. Two months after we got the Monty, it was broke into at storage, damage was $6,500. The paid without batten an eye.

On the way to Mid-Atlantic Rally (7-30-2014), Left front tire on the truck blew up, and the truck made a sharp Left turn. The Monty had to be up on two wheels and contacted the bed side. Walls had to rise up 12-14" from the floor, because ice machine that on on the floor by the fireplace, ended up on the freeway. The welds all the way around are broke on the walls at the floor.

Monty was totaled, first offer from Progressive was $43,000, and I said that wasn't even close. I sent them documentations on all the mods, BigFoot Leveling System, Solar Panels, and 2nd A/C. I also grab all the same year and model listings from rvtrader.com. They came back with $63,800 which was acceptable to us.

We had some confusion, we thought we were buying Agreed on value of $65,000, but agent wrote it as lesser of Market or $65,000. Beware of agent when buying a policy for Progressive. When I get the new Montana, I will contact Progressive directly.

Insurance is a funny animal that requires bi-annual if not annual review. We shopped ours a year ago and it was marginally high to its' competetiors. We finally got real serious this year, after another increase, and ended up with home, 2 vehicles, and the 5'er for 29% less money for 23% more coverage. Independent agent matched us with Allied Ins. which carries a pretty good rating on our state insurance commisions website. Jim

We have Progressive on our new 2015 305RL and pay $489 annually in CA. They seem to have the best rates.

We shop insurance and check rates about every two years. We went to progressive 3 years ago on all our insurances. They offered the best rates for actually more coverage than we had and last year our rates went down even though we went from a 2011 Honda to a 2014 Honda ..same model car. thues far we are happy with progressive but we will still shop when this years premiums are due.

I'm going through the rate check game now. We have Progressive on the 5th wheel but when I tried to bundle it with my other vehicles everything went much higher than who I'm using now. I checked 3 other companies but did not include the RV insurance and all but one was close to or a little higher than my current company. I will contact the one that was cheaper and ask to add my house as well to see what happens. I'm sure it's all based on geographic location but like Rich I check every couple of years.
