Keeping threads on topic

I know that we need to keep our threads on topic but once in a while it just happens naturally that we stray a little. For example, in the thread on fuel prices, I inserted a post about my calculations on the break-even point between for the fuel for diesel and gas engine vehicles. I don't know if this was "legal" or not since I didn't mention what I had seen for prices at various stations. Did I do wrong? I noticed that a moderator included a bunch of posts in his/her post and mentioned we need to keep on topic. I'm just a little confused here. Can someone help? Steve R. do you have an answer?

Olds1932,

It happens from time to time that someone will get caught in between the offenders and the published Admin. Your post may or may not have been off topic. I do not remember. But it makes no difference. When you make a post I'm sure most of us know whether it is on topic or not. So when posting try resisting the urge to post off topic. If it is really important and interesting then post it in its own topic. But don't worry about it until you get a message from the MODS or Admins.

Just keep posting all the great info that MOC members are known for.
