We would like to spend a few months in the Yuma area this winter Nov-Jan. We are looking for suggestions including costs etc. and the good, bad and ugly. Thanks.

Helen, we spent two winters in the Yuma area, although not directly in town, but on a wildlife refuge about 40 miles away. We did go to Yuma lots for this and that. Yuma is a good place to winter. Lots of RV parks, lots of interesting activities going on in Yuma and around. The people are very friendly, decent shopping at a mall, super Wally for groceries, close to Mexico for prescriptions, liquor, glasses, good food and "stuff". They like winter visitors in Yuma. The wind comes up occasionally and little dust blows. There is a visitor center downtown that lists all the RV parks with their availability, although if you get there in November you should be okay. Prices good for food, fuel, etc. Parks can be from minimal to pricey. They do have a hefty restaurant tax, which is their way of taxing tourists. There are several flea markets in Yuma all winter long.

bob & pam,
We also spent a time in Yuma last year and rented a private lot in the foothills very reasonably. We thought it was a very nice place to winter. Prices in the foothills were not very pricey. Ask some of the "Locals?" where to go. Check out the Market as well!

For what it's worth..... We stayed at Lake Mitry. It is just up the river from Yuma. It is free. Just find a wide spot and set up camp. Nothing special but a nice free camping area. It's right on the river. And it's about 10 miles from Yuma. I agree with the posts above.... lots to do in and around the Yuma area. We enjoyed the flea markets and they have a couple of huge malls. And tons of restaurants. We also made a couple of trips down to Mexico. Very interesting. Could not believe how many people there were.

We had a lot of rain while we were there but we only stayed a week. We will go back some day.

We have some very dear friends that go to Yuma every winter for 5 months.
They just love it. We don't! Too many people, traffic is horrendous and we found prices to be quite high. If you go try Bubba's BBQ restaurant....very good, mouthwatering ribs.

We stayed at Sun Vista a few years ago. I think it was around 600. per mo. Too much sand around Yuma and too dry. Ann could hang her clothes out to dry and by the time she finished hanging them up she could start to take the first ones off and work back to the end.
They dried that quick. Lips were always cracking, had to use lip stuff you use in the winter up north.

Helen,
When are you guys going to be down there? The foothills have a lot of privately owned rental spaces at pretty reasonable prices. As you know, we have a double lot down there. I think Mels dad has it rented out already though. I'll ask him and PM you with possible other info. We are going to be down there in October till the 1st of November.
