Boys, boys,
You are having wayyyyyyyyyy toooooooooooo much fun!
Now, just as a friendly reminder, if ya all really want Santa to bring these chrome white funny tailgates to ya on Xmas, there is just ONE Little thing ya gotta do.
BUY YOUR WIVES DIAMONDS!!! Lots of them!!! Santa will tell you, DIAMONDS!! they lighten you pockets, giving more mileage no matter what rig ya tote, and no matter what ya are toting it with, and mo matter what color or type of tailgate ya got on that big monster toting machine!! Diamonds do not weigh nearly as much as all that cash!
Now, get out there and SHOP!! Get better mileage, SPEND!!
Now,after all that shopping, you may continue with all your tailgate fun!!

Carol,
My DW only has one finger blank! I'm saving the money for a rainy day!!!!
I don't want a louvered tailgate anyhow. I hear that the loose bounce. Probably going down the road.

And we appreciate all the help we can get, but DIAMONDS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here I was thinking about something like a little red portable propane campfire, or maybe a couple of new recliner outside chairs. (On the serious side though......I may have to consider something along your line of thought, as long as we can all keep it a secret.....after all it will be hidden in a 13 page thread about louvered tailgates!!!!!!!)

Isn't that like a woman, they can get a plug in for a Christmas present even when talking about trucks and fuel mileage. Maybe a compromise, with more shine and glitter than Chrome, a diamond studded tail gate.

Just a thought. Would it help to have a louvered pickup box to go with the tailgate?

One thing that will help front tire pressure is to monitor the amount of air in the tire, and insure that it is at proper inflation. Lovering the tailgate may or may not help with that monitoring. That would be a test that you would need to conduct and possibly report the results here on this thread.

As long as the holes are in the tailgate and not in the tire the mileage will be better

The correct answer is a "V Box". We love the V Box. It is diamond plated and is a lockable tool box. Very sturdy, this is the second truck it has been on. Figured if I wasted all the time it took to read 14 pages, then I deserve to make an input.
