Motor Club Insurance

Just a few questions to the MOC members--
1. How many of you have AARP Motoring Plan insuance?
2. Do you have the Standard Plan or the Premier Plan?
3. Do you also carry the RV Service plan? If so, is it worth it and how do you like it?

Already have the Standard motoring plan but not the RV Service part and an thinking of upgrading to the Premier and also the RV plan and wondering if it is worth the money for the upgrades! Thanks, in advance, for any advice you can give me! Rondo

Ok, Rondo, you asked about who has it. I will tell you why I don't.

After looking a the actual coverage of AARP's road service offer with the eyes of a former casuality insurance agent, it is my opinion that it does not do as well as either Good Sam's or Coach-net's programs. I have Coach-net after making a line-by-line comparison of benefits.

Good Sam and Coach-net cover ALL your vehicles on the RV road service policies, not just your RV. So you only need one service, one premium. AAA charges you additional for each driver and each additional vehicle (unless they have changed since I left them).

When I looked at the AARP site, I only found an offer to insure your RV, not provide a service policy (extended warranty). I saw no additional road service offer for RV's.

I hope I am not over stepping, but some folks find all these insurance coverages and policies confusing.
  • RV insurance is the casualty policy that covers you like your auto policy covers your tow vehicle.
  • Road services policies cover towing, changing flats, etc, but do not include liability and collision coverage.
  • Service policies are like extended warranties. They cover, according to a schedule of benefits, repairs to your rig, but not related to collision.
Here is one example: I had a blow out. My road service (Coach-net)came out and changed the flat. The blowout did $2,000.00 damage to the side of my rig. That was covered by my collision policy less my deducible. At one point, I had my main A/C repaired. Since I was past the initial warranty period, my service policy (extended warranty) covered the repair less the $50.00 deductible. Another event occured when my TV blew a torque converter seal. The same road service towed both my truck and my RV to a Ford dealership for repairs. The tow was covered, but no service policy on the truck, so the repairs were on me.

You may know all this, but maybe some others don't.

Nice explaination Stiles. Most folks do not know the difference between a "service contract" like we have on our Rv's and " Extended Warranty" Like we can purchase from Ford. Most folks do not even bother to read the contract then are upset when the obligator will not pay because the holder did not comply with the terms of the contact. These service contracts are marketed as extended " Warranties" which they are not and that is all the buyer see's.
