Easter surprise

When I awakened at 7:00 AM, looking forward to celebrating Resurrection Sunday, I immediately knew something was amiss. I checked my pulse and discovered it was very erratic. I grabbed the blood pressure monitor and strapped it on. Sure enough I found the reason for my malaise. My blood pressure was significantly elevated and my heart rate was jumping all around - another episode of atrial fibrillation.

Off to the ER in Carlsbad, NM. It happened that the on-duty doctor was a cardiologist. They strapped for an EXG and tubed for an IV and took blood and xrayed as expected. By the time they got all the results back, my heart had converted back to a regular, steady beat and the blood pressure normalized. Then by 10:15 AM I was released to go my way. I feel like I found the prize Easter Egg.

On reflection, I determined I had consumed too much caffeine on Saturday. Too much caffeine can cause a heart with the propensity to go a-fib to do so. Lesson learned ....again.

Glad you took fast action and everything is good again. Maybe a little Brandy in your decaf would help.

We're glad you're OK. Your heart is nothing to mess around with. As soon as you feel you have a problelm it's off to ER. You did the right thing.

Time to stick to water for your choice of drink. I too have had issues with palpitations, its no fun. Good luck and keep the caffeine to a minimum.

Glad your OK Stiles,
That gets scarry when it happens, IT'S LIKE YOU WERE HYPROVENTELATING! get light headed, and dry throat.
It happens to me also. Kaiser put me on a 24 hour monitor two times and it showed OK, and another time they hooked up the EKG machine and it was going crazy to then like a light switch it was pounding normal, after a specalist lookd at the graph to insure I didnt hurt my heart of valves, I got a report of all is well.
Sometimes I can just be sitting there, and BANG there it goes again.
the doctor told me if it happens again that coughing sometimes help stop it or, Excue the curdness, sit on the toilet and push like you were trying to go but NOT, if you know what I mean.
I found I dring too much coffee I wont say how much but all day. of taking Tyinal dont help me either, so I limmit the pill.

Good luck and take care.

Stiles,
Been there done that. No fun at all. Talk to your cardiologist about those moves Trailer Trash mentioned. I use them my self and they do work. The way I would describe them is thus: Take and hold a breath, push your chest down and in like a crunch exercise. Hold it for a ten count. Somehow this places pressure on the heart and helps restore a natural beat. My guy called it Pre-atrial tachycardia and as result I am left with an abnormal beat known as PVC (Pre-Venrtal something). I also suffer from CRS as you can see.
Hang in there and all will be well.

Thanks Bob I could not remember what the doctor called it, but thats just about what he told me, Stiles I dont know if you have had a monitor attached yet but if not you should ask your doctor about it it. It's only one day test, you write everthing you do or are about to do, with the times, and all that stuff that they ask for, if anything happens it will be recorded, but in my case nothing happened. it doesnt hurt either, just pulling the sticky things off you chest.

I am glad to hear that the problem was something as simple as too much caffeine! Easily fixed issue! Take care of yourself.

Thank you all for the words of encouragement. We moved from Carlsbad to Alamogordo. Feeling fine and expecting to enjoy White Sands and other local attractions.
