Gas prices

We just completed a 5300 mile trip, w/o Monte, from Illinois-California-Colorado-Illinois. The one thing most noticed was the fluctuation of gas prices. Starting in Illinois at about $2.55/gal we stayed fairly close through Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming with increases starting in Utah through Nevada and finally California where we paid a low of 3.29.9 and saw a high of 3.79.9. On the way back we experienced an average of 2.55.9 in Colorado and a decline through Nebraska and Iowa. Welcome home to Illinois where it jumped to 2.64.9, saw 3.03.9 and arrived, 3 weeks later, at home, to 2.99.9. Welcome Memorial Day or something else?

Not only is the price going up for travel season, you got to experience the wide difference in state gas taxes.

Same old song and dance regarding fuel prices. I just think that with the internet age, the whole price strategy is closely tied to day to day world events across all markets in order to maximize oil profits. Only diff now is more people can see it all happen quicker. John

The strangest thing is that diesel prices were the most consistant with California being a little higher at about $3

The biggest disappointment was not filling up in Belvidere, Il for 2.64.9 and getting home finding 2.99.9. That was yesterday and tomorrow its up anothe 6 cents.

I just got home from a trip to MD to see my nephew get married. Although I didn't have my truck, I noticed the diesel prices appear to be coming down. Even on the interstate, they were lower than I am paying locally.

State gasoline taxes range from less than 20 cents per gallon to over 40 cents per gallon. That plus regional prices cause quite a difference in yhe final price from place to place.

Dale,

We love the area. We are workamping at Crazy Horse this summer. Weather has been real nuts...we had a blizzard on Mother's Day which dumped 2 feet of show and then another storm last weekend with another 6 inches so I have been busy shoveling around the memorial complex and now taking care of all the lawn maintenance with the crew.

Sue is working the Welcome Ctr.

According to an article on CNN today we are seeing the high in gas prices for the summer. Hope they're right.

EPA mandated blends for motor fuels to combat air pollution varies greatly throughout the country. The manufacturing and distribution of these blends have a profound effect on the price of fuel.
