When we spec'd out the new 3850, one of the "to do" items was for the dealer to move our existing hard-wired camera system to the new rig. After they offered us a good deal on the new wireless model, we decided it would be worth a try to avoid having to fight the wiring connections between the rig and the truck. We did get to try it on the return trip so in the interest of being upfront with the MOC membership wanted to give our initial impressions. The way the system works is the camera gets power from the marker lights in the top rear of the rig. This means for the camera to work, the marker lights must be turned on. Not something we are used to, but it must be remembered and is probably better from a safety standpoint anyway. Picture quality was excellent but there are still interference problems and short duration loss of signal associated with bridge underpasses and overpasses. Have no idea why, but the signal is definitely disrupted for a couple of seconds. The last view stays on the monitor until it updates. It is obvious to the driver because the image freezes. I will with-hold final judgement until I use it more, but definitely like the part of not having to worry about the wiring connections which have been troublesome for us in the past. We have the heavy duty connector, but had dropped it's use since it appeared to be the primary problem with the wired unit. Past problems with interference from the truck itself apparently have been resolved. The other bonus was the camera is black which blends in well with the Big Sky paint scheme. The previous camera was white.

Good info Bingo. We have had the hard wired system on both our Montana's for 7 years with excellent results. We were considering upgrading to the wireless system. because it is getting more difficult for us to do the truck connection. I never though about it dropping in underpasses . Interesting.. keep us updated as you use it.
