HELP

Okay, so I am in Quartzsite and got up this morning to no hot water. Water heater will not ignite on gas. Electric side works fine. I have checked and the sparker is sparking, have re-seated all the electrical connections on the valve, tapped the valve with a hammer, tried to light it manually all "no joy". I am thinking it is probably the valve and no gas is flowing. I should be able to get one in town. Any other ideas???

Jack

Take the gas line apart and clean the valve...also clean the tube and burn chamber.

If the igniter is sparking and you indicated you verified that, there has to be a blockage. Assume your refrigerator is running OK on propane? How about the stove?

Everything else is working fine on gas....it is just the water heater.

Try releasing the gas pressure. Turn the tanks off, uncouple them (Screw the plastic connector off) light the stove burner to get all the pressure off the system on both ends.
Then re-connect the tanks, turn on, light the stove, then try the water heater.

Sounds like it could be one of the solenoids. There are two and both have to open for gas to flow. They are easy to remove. Check them with an ohm meter and if I recall, a good one should be around 40 ohms.

Unfortunately, I have not found any place to get solenoids other than there was a post a couple of years ago that there was a guy in Q that sold them. I had to buy a whole new valve assembly, scrapped most of it and just kept the solenoids.

You hit the nail on the head Michael. It was a bad solenoid. I took it into town and "Gamblers" had one. We read the old solenoids and one of them was bad. Replaced and now back up and running. Thank you all for the quick replies and suggestions.

Jack
