Ahhh, the joys of reaching a half century - UPDATE

Sitting at home on a Friday evening, can't eat anything, Miralax by the glassfull, need to drink 64 ounces of the dreaded mixture. All because I agreed with the DW for a medical procedure that is not required. My first colonoscopy, and for the only reason that I reached the half-century mark a year or so ago and we just want to make sure that there is nothing wrong. The joys of growing old!!!! At least I have the Montana, boat and the anticipation of riding the new toy to get me through this. Life is good, other than in the next few hours!!!Whewww!!

You had to remind me. Waited until I was 60 for my first. Due for my next.
Tonight is the hard part. Tomorrow is easy.
When I had mine, the nurse put me on a bed and started an IV. Shortly she rolled me to the procedure room. Told me to turn on my side and she was going to give me something to relax me. Shot something into the IV.
Next thing I knew she was asking me if I could sit up. I asked her when they were going to do the procedure. She said it was done and I could leave as soon as I felt OK.
They did find a couple small polyps and removed them, but said overall there was no sign of any problems. Guess I better sign up again.

Old Doc asked how I felt; "heck, doc, I used a whole roll of Charmin yesterday". He looks at me, "makes you want to pat instead of wipe don't it"? Ain't that the truth!

When I got to the hospital for my colonosposy, the doctor asked me if I took all the liquid I needed to take the night before. I told him that I was so cleaned out that you could eat off my colon.

We won't go into too much detail, but there are times tonight when you have been and probably will be correct. Ha Ha!!! At least I can still laugh!

Bingo,

Like everyone said, the drink is the worst part. I have a couple of more years before I am due again. I here they have some horse capsules you can take with lots of water, I may see about that next time.

I drank two 32 oz. bottles of Gatorade and four tablets of your fun stuff. The best part of it is that you never know it happens and it's over in no time! Just smile Bingo and count it as an experience in life that we all go through!! Good luck tomarrow and have a great weekend!

The doctor's assistant asked me if I drank all the liquid and had an evacuation, I said I drank every bit of the stuff and nothing happened.
That drew some raised eye brows. Got to have some laughs out of it all.
I liked the nap. I don't sleep all that well normally.

Glad to report that I got a clean bill of health. Bottom line is that means that the MOC will have to put up with my latent sarcasm, barbs, and general mischief for a long time to come!!

Well of course, Dennis. The procedure was at 7:45 a.m. today, was home by 9:00 a.m. and I did not want my MOC forum buddies (DW's affectionate name for everyone), wondering if they would have to forgo my ever-informative, ever-entertaining, ever-troublesome, never-ending rants, raves and generally annoying postings!!!! Hee Hee!!!

Five years and they want you to endure all that fun again? LOL After the procedure I look like I was pregnant with all the gas I needed to pass that was the worst (maybe?). Good to hear the end results!

In all seriousness...anybody over 50 should get one. My Dad died early because of colon cancer, I inherited that gene and get scoped every two years...and they always find 'something.'

Charlie,
You are definitely correct. The doctor questioned me as to why I wanted to have it done since they don't recommend them actually until age 55. Although we have had some fun on the thread, it is definitely a serious matter that should be taken seriously. Once colon cancer sets in, there is little that can be done. If anyone is even a bit hesitant, don't be!
