Hello from South Carolina,

HELP! My name is J.D. and my wife is Sandy. We just took departure from a motor home and bought a 2012 Montana Mountaineer. We are learning the new system (for us) and trying to get ready to make our maiden voyage to the mountains of North Carolina.

Sandy and I are both retired. Me from the U.S. Navy and as a NJROTC Instructor at a high school. Sandy is retired from the local school system.

I don't know if I should ask this question here on the introduction page but if anyone can help I would appreciate it.

The fresh water tank on our new rig has never been used so I want to sanitize it. I drained the tank as the manual calls for, mixed the proper solution of bleach and water. Obtained a hand held pump but lo and behold there is no way possible to get the solution in the fresh water tank. I removed the filter and inserted my hose. When I apply pressure to pump the solution it spews back out. How can I get the solution in the fresh water tank?

Big thanks....J.D.

Welcome from KY!

You should have a place for the fresh water on the side of the camper to fill the tank directly.

Once upon a time we had a motor home as well. Two years was all we could take of it. You'll like the fiver once you have it a while.
Congratulations on your decession!

If you don't have a door on the street side rear, then you will have to use the tank fill switch in the center, assuming mountineers have that. If so, then bleach in a filter housing without filter in it and hooked to city water should move it to the fresh water tank. Others use the winterizing port. Should be able to search archives for "fresh water tank" and find several methods. John

Welcome to the forum! If you don't have a fill door in the streetside rear of your rig then here are some ideas of how to get the job done; http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...sanitize,fresh

Thanks to all of you for the help. Bill-N-Donna, I looked in a locked compartment door and found what appears to be a fill point. I didn't check that because I remembered it as being an external leveling station. DQDICK, I checked out the forum that you recommended and probably the best information (in case nothing else worked) was to pour the bleach directly in the water hose, hook it up and turn the water on. It has been pushing 100 degrees here today so I will wait until in the morning to finish the job.

I noticed that some folks never disinfect their fresh water tank. That is one of the first things I did when I purchased the motor home. I noticed also that there is no water filter under the sink. Any recommendations on an external filter?

Lastly, while I really liked the 2004 Fleetwood Bounder 38N for it's roominess and diesel power I am falling in love with this Montana Mountaineer. It beat out a Heartland Bighorn so you know it must be good. We are the 2nd owners and it is like new. Hope to see you all when, as one full timer told me on a NW tour when I asked where they were from. "We're not from, we're to!" See you there.

Welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of helpful wisdom on this forum so don't be afraid to ask your questions. This is far better than any owner's manual or customer service! Congrats on your new rig.
