Fuel cell in generator (front) compartment?

Has anyone put a fuel cell in the front compartment? Rather than an aux tank in my bed, why not a tank in the generator bay? I only need the extra range when I tow ...

Do you really want to put fuel(gasoline) in the front of your unit and add the weight to it instead of the TV? For one thing, I myself would not want 30-50 gallons of gas sitting under my bedroom, living room or under the bathroom(which ever model you might have). What would happen if the cell started to leak? Also just how would you run the fuel line from the RV to the TV? That is really not a safe thing either! I would definitely rethink the idea of putting a fuel cell in the front bay of the RV!!!

Thank you, I am considering it as an aux for my diesel. A small transfer pump perhaps? I am thinking that a 30 or 40 gal tank would weigh less than a gen set. Don't the generators run on gasoline, which I agree is more problematic than diesel?

I truly appreciate the feedback and this is why I asked for the advice from this great forum. I would rather confirm my ideas as silly than confirm my actions as ridiculous !

Right that diesel fuel isn't as dangerous as gasoline (or propane), but you'll be adding that weight on your pin and taking away cargo carrying capacity from your 5er, and it won't help your bed weight any. Other than not having the tank in your truck bed, I can't see any advantage to doing this.

I'm in agreement with the folks above. The generators that are installed there run on propane, a danger we already are dealing with. I don't see any positive reason to put a fuel cell there. Although to be truthful I've never added extra fuel capacity because I don't want the weight anywhere and our bladders need to stop long before the fuel needs to be refilled on our standard tank.

Your looking at I'd guess around #350+ sitting in your front compartment. @300# for 40 gal diesel and another 50# or so for the tank and related transfer items. The cross shaft for your front jacks (unless you have level up) will limit height maybe steering you to a custom tank. The floor is just thin sheet metal. Having a considerable amount of fuel in the same compartment with electric motors and trombetta reversing relays just plain doesn't sound good. I propose you put some more thought into this ... even toy haulers have their fuel cells near the axles.

Thank you all. I am convinced now that this was a bad idea!
