I don't mean peeking at the battery from afar...
You need to get a good specific Gravity tester and test it.
Make sure it is charged...they are charged.. after topping off the battery water, give it a days use or so to insure the acid is all good-to-go and mixed with the new water you put in.
Test each cell, refer to the battery info I posted.
On my 18 cells, 6 batteries, I had one battery of the bunch that was a slacker... one cell was 1.260: Good. BUT the other 2 cells were a paltry 1.225. FAIL..
This bad battery drug all the rest of the batteries down, as they are all a big team of horses pulling together, so when I get my new one in that I got today, we will be good-to-go.
It tested low on the 3 cells even when it showed 6 volts on my Fluke.
It is the acid test, so to speak that counts. I am charging it apart from the rest now.
You are just guessing if you don't make the test with the S.G. tester.
My batteries were one and a half years old, Sam's Club gave me a new one and I paid .50 tax or something. That is why I bought my batteries there, they stand behind them.
The lady didn't know what a S.G. tester was... but she honored the Warr. and better. I was expecting a Pro-rated exchange.

Ha ha..
In my never-ending quest to provide helpful tips for our members, I did not want to insult the readers with a disgusting acid laden tester. Maybe on another Forum, but not here.
Hmmm...Maybe that is why I had such a hard time getting good readings....
Oh, and I did some research, do not try and charge a single 6 volt battery with a 12 volt charger unless you wire in a headlight.. I know.. OR a resistor of some sort to shunt some of the busy little electrodes somewhere.. But I happen to have a 6 volt charger.
Figures, the battery I got from Sam's reads real low, I will charge it up today and hope it comes up. I get 6 volts, but the S.G. test reads 'fail'. I wonder if all of them are like that. It takes forever to charge up a single 6 volt with my charger, I may take my tester down to Sam's and check some batteries on the shelf. They will probably run me off. Won't be the first time...
