Ours is a 10 gallon in a 2005 model, are you sure it is a 6 gallon? There should be enough room to install either size.

That's the same thing I was thinking. Our Mountaineer came standard with the 10 gallon water heater...I would think the Montana would have also.

I guess the right question is - If you have replaced the hot water heater with an electric hot water heater...what brand and what size? We are trying to find one that will fit in the space where the existing LP hot water heater is. Thanks

CasaDelSol, I am confused, sorry. Are you saying your '06 2955 does not have a dual power (propane and Elec) hot water heater. I thought they were all dual power. That's one on me.

Phil,
I think that is what she is saying so: Casa, go outside and open the cover of the water heater, near the bottom behind some of the tubing for gas you should see a rocker switch. It may have a clip in it. If so, remove the clip and flip the switch. Voila! electric water heater.

CasaDelSol,
I agree with the rest of the folks here. You should have a 10 gallon HWH. And just so you don't feel like the Lone Ranger...... It took us a year to realize we had a dual fuel HWH! Finally found the switch on the tank flipped it and Ta Da we had electric power heating our water!
I can't think of anyone ever replacing their tank or having to install a larger one.
Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

Just be sure to switch the water heater back off if you drain the tank.

Will is absolutely correct..... Never have the electric on with the tank empty! That will certainly cause you to have to replace the electric element. And from what I understand the electric element burnout happens in about a heartbeat! Thankfully I have not yet had any first hand experience and hope I never do!
Travel safely,
Dennis

Thanks for the info. We did indeed have the little toggle switch and tried to switch over to electric. We waited hours but the water never heated up. DH checked the voltage and it was getting 120v. DH suspects that either the contacts may be corroded or the sacrificial anode may be gone. In order to check those things he needs to spray on a "liquid wrench" type product because he can't loosed the lugs. He hasn't had a chance to do that yet so we switched back to gas. He will be trying it this week. BTW there was water in the tank so he is sure that we didn't burn out the element when he turned it on. Finding replacement parts will be difficult and we might wait until we get to Goshen. I'll keep you posted.

The sacrificial anode has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the electric works. If you turned the switch to on and it didn't work, it is likely your heating element is gone. It is possible it is the contacts but I have never heard of that happening. Make sure you check your water heater breaker on the panel as well.
If the anode is actually gone, you shouldn't wait to replace it. Once the anode is gone it can't do its job and the inside of your heater will begin to rot away.

As pointed out, the electric anode will indeed burnout quickly if there is no water covering it in the hot water tank...I know from experience! When doing winter prep at home for our rig, I had already drained the hot water heater before bringing it home...unfortunately, I forgot to turn off the electric switch. When I plugged in shore power at home, the electric circuit to the hot water heater blew almost immediately...in those few seconds the water heater anode burned out. As it turned out, it was a real easy fix...called a repair guy.

You are in the Tampa area and you can't find parts for an RV?
