stereo speakers bedroom - Montana Owners Club

I have a 2003 3255rl and I can't figure out how to turn off the bedroom speakers. When one of us wants to listen to the stereo and the other is reading in the bedroom its anoying with the speakers over the bed with no control. I would like a volume control and or an on/off switch for those speakers.

I could put in a stereo volume control from Radio Shack but I do not know the locations of the wiring and I'm not sure about the mounting depth for a box to flush mount the control.

For $35 x (2) for each pair of speakers seems expensive for what I'm trying to accomplish

Has anyone put in separate / independent controls for the living room / bed room speakers? It sure would be nice to independently control both sets of speakers.

If you have a 2003 or earlier Montana, you can add an a-b-c switch near the AM/FM Radio (radio shack). Just locate the wires that connect to the rear speakers on the radio and connect them to the switch. You will have to get a short lenght of speaker wire to connect the switch to the radio. We had to do that in our 2003 Montana. For those who have quests radio, the same applys if there is no a-b-c switch on the front (2005s have a switch).

Unless you are wired like a 3670rl in which case the slide speakrs are on one wire and the living room - bed room are on another wire.... to split them up you have to find the splice in the attic. (another Montana feature).

In our case the RCA stereo is held in the cabinet by a couple of wood screws driven into the side of the case from an adjacent cabinet.

I am looking at this myself. When we got the rig, one side of the stereo was wired to the living room and the other was to the bedroom! Standing in the bathroom had a nice stereo sound however. That was easy to fix. Still thinking about the switch vs. volume control. Would like to add a subwoofer, but can't see any way short of a major project to add it(no room near the radio). It may have to wait till summer. All of the wires came to the radio in ours. I guess we are lucky.

uhftx, our 2001 model 3255 had a switch on the ceiling just beside the antenna lever to shut off the speakers in the bedroom. Our 2004 model 3280 has the same switch, i guess I thought they were all the same?There should be a switch somewhere in your coach, I didn't order anything special to get ours.

We had the speaker issue in our 2004 3295. There were two screws holding the stereo in the cabinet (on the side of the unit- I found that out the hard way) and the speaker wires were just connected at the stereo. So I unhooked the bedroom pair (Found the wires the hard way) and all is well with the wife. No "noise" in the bedroom!

No switch in our 2003 model. I guess we fell through the crack on this one.

We have a 2002 3575RL. Keeping in mind that we have only spent 3 days with this rig (while driving hard to get it home over Thanksgiving), I also noticed a distinct lack of speaker control. However, the previous owner had replaced the stock radio with a (cheap) shelf stereo. I haven't had a chance to look behind to see how things are wired.

It WILL be changed so I can control it in some way shape or form.

On mine, the quest had an A_B switch, and I also have one in the bedroom. My new sony system, I am not sure if it has a switch or not, but i have the one in the bedroom alreay. The easiest thing would be to get the wsitch from Radio shack, it will actually be really easy to install right in the bedroom next to one of the speakers, and that should do it for you.

Ours has a switch mounted on the ceiling next to the speaker closest to the bath room.

on mine i had to pull the sterio and mount an A-B switch. once i pulled the sterio out i had access to the living room and the bedroom speaker wires.
pretty easy once the sterio is out.
like was said before, there are two screws holding the sterio in place. they either come in from the top or from the bottom, depending on how the installer did it that day

Yes I had the same problem with 298RLS. I got a volume control switch, and mounted it where the stereo is by just removing it and cutting a hole to the right. I cut the hole from the bottom by opening the storage door under the stereo, then mount a box, then cut the wires and pulled the wires through the box, and attach the wires to the switch. To use the volume control just open the door,and the control is under the shelf. I hope this all makes sense.

Got an A/B/C/D switch from Radio shack and installed it. I can turn on the living room, bedroom, or both. Plus I have expansion in case I want to put speakers in the bunk room or outside. Currently I have wireless for outside so I just turn off A and B and just have the music outside, the wireless speakers have their own volume controls so I can keep from disturbing my neighbors.
