Water leak in the bed room
We had a toad strangler down pour. When Ann and I went to bed I found the side of the bed spread wet. Felt all around and finally realized it was coming from the ceiling about six inches forward of the TV antenna crank. Put waste basket there to collect the rest of the water. Yes I did get a pencil and make a mark where the water was coming through a pin hole.
Next day I got on the roof with caulk and walked forward of the TV antenna. Knowing I was going to have a heck of a time finding that elusive crack in the caulking.
Looked at the antenna coax and saw the "rubber cap" was about four inches up the coax. The 1/2 inch hole was the culprit. The hole is on the antenna base and is how the coax is fed to the TV amplifier power box.
A little caulk on the base and top and good to go. For once an easy fix.
NOTE: When on the roof check the rubber boot that covers the post for the coax on the antenna base.

Glad to see that it was an easy fix. I will go on top tomorrow and check that area. We have not had any leaks but a little PM wont hurt.

I like the easy fixes too!
I even like all of the fixes when they are done.

John,
We had a few rigs in Quartzsite discover that very same thing after a couple of days of nasty weather. It is now part of my check of things when I wash the roof or go up there for anything else. Easy fixes are always nice

I had the same problem twice. I put a zip tie around the cable to keep the boot from moving up.

Like Jack I check the antenna coax boot every time I go up on the roof. That thing has a way of working loose. A good shot of Dicor on the boot appears to help.

I have a question, next to the antenna is some kind of vent that has a round plastic cover. This is in addition to the three vents that are up there. My round plastic cover disintegrated. Don't know what the thing is but will it leak? should I cover it? anyone know what it is?

We had the same problem about eight years ago. I used a little clear silicone sealant under the hood and pushed down on the coax. It has never moved up since then.

If the vent cover you are asking about looks like this vent cover below it is a vent for the attic ventilation. There are probably a couple of them.
Someone posted sometime back where to order them. Perhaps they will come along soon. I think you could probably order one from a dealer also.

We were lucky, someone spotted that our boot was loose at Quartzsite before the deluge hit. I filled that hole with Dicor then put some in the boot and stuck it back in place, it won't budge now

The official name for the vent Joe & Lucy identified is "Roof Attic Mushroom Cap" At least that is what my parts guy told me. If the top is missing it will definately leak leading to some wet insulation. When I discovered mine was missing I just covered it with duct tape untill I could get a replacement. Jim

How bad will the attic vent leak? I guess I need to get back up there and cover it with something until next weekend. Hate dang ladders!
