Homer, Alaska

Can anyone recommend a good campground in Homer, Alaska?

Thanks for your help.

David and Jo-Anna,

Check this link out. There are about 5 or 6 parks reviewed. Can't believe the $75 one. Man that must be nice!

http://www.campgroundreviews.com/

Just click on the little map icon of Alaska then down the city list to Homer.

Good luck.

We stayed at Ocean View. It is probably the nicest in the area. If your generator is working, it would be fun to camp on the spit. That's where the action is. The views are awesome. There's a fishing hole where they catch salmon when they come in.

You're getting into small town life at Homer but it's very touristy so you'll be paying the big prices. Our memory of Homer involves my brother, who is a little thrifty, to put it nicely. He volunteered to buy the four of us our ice cream cones. The bill came to almost $30.00 for four double cones in 2006. I doubt that the dear fellow has recovered yet!

David and Jo-Anna, check out the boat ride to the Russian village, something some Soldatna. We saw whales, otters, birds, and a really neat little village. I got some awesome photos on that ride.

Dennis, it's all about location, location, location.

Judy and Helen,

Did you check out the Heritage RV park? That is the one that charges $75+ per night. Just curious as to what would make it worth that much.

Thanks,

Dennis

HamRad, we're on the way to Homer, and bless Jo-Anna for asking. We'll check out the Heritage RV Park to see what makes it so golden!

Dennis, we met the guy who runs the rvparksreview website at the "Welcome to Alaska" sign on the way to Skagway. A nice fellow from the South traveling with his wife and two kids. It's a handy site.

Bob and Pam,

It is a small world isn't it? Yes it is a very nice site. It works really well and based on our personal experience we've found the postings to be very honest and factual. Of course there are some who vote nothing but their troubled lives. But when you look at the overall average you get a good feel for what the park may be like. It is very useful for us.

Will look forward to your report on the "golden RV Park".

Thanks,

Dennis

Dennis, the Heritage is right on the Spit and you back up to the water... It is very nice but there is one right next door to it that has the same view for much less... I think that one was about $40.00. The Heritage was the only one that wasn't full when we were there in '06. I wonder why?

Bill and Helen,

Thank you. Yeah. I wonder why they were not full? A little difference in price you can understand. But $75 seems a bit steep even by Alaska standards. Wonder how long they've been in business and how long they will stay in business? Sounds like they've been there for awhile.

Thanks for info. I appreciate it.

We're thinking we'd like to stay on the spit if we can - I'm waiting to hear what Bob and Pam did. They've been our "scout" for awhile now........
