Roof Repair

A wind storm a few weeks back blew a Hickory limb onto the rood of my Daughters Cougar, resulting 5 small holes in the rubber membrane. The largest hole is about the size of a nickle or a tiny bit bigger. The Cougar is not quite a year old. Insurance will pick up the tab for a new roof. Now my question to folks that have been RV'ing a lot longer than me, would you go ahead and have a new roof installed, or use Eternabond tape to patch the 5 holes in the membrane? Is a new dealer installed roof likely to cause problems a few years down the road? Decisions, decisions....

A new roof will make her Cougar more resalable come trade-in time. If I were going to bear the cost, I would just patch. Since insurance pays, I would let them replace the roof. A reputable dealer should do a reliable job.

nickel size hole I would just fix it myself with ethernabond tape and some caulk self leveling, save your insurance claim for when you really need there help. Issue today in insurance would as told to me the other day is if you have more than 2 claims in 3 year period they the insurance company has the right to cancel you policy. This all came about after all the hurricanes down south. Someone in the insurance bus may know more.

I would fix it myself! The problem with turning it into the insurance is that as said previously- they could cancel your policy and once that happens it's really tough to get someone else to insure you! Yes, you pay the premium but they can also jack that premium up for you next year because of the claim. The tape and decor caulk sounds like the way to go for me anyway! OMHO

the Dicor roof people make a great patch kit for those small holes. They supply rubber membrane and a sealer caulk to use. once it is on it is not coming off.

I think I would fix it myself but first I'd take good pictures and file the pictures and an explanation with the insurance company, telling them you'll repair it yourself but if it does not hold then you'd like to file a claim.
