Quest 2000

Hi Everybody,
I just had a little accident with my quest remote controller.
It fell into the recliner chair and unfortunately got crushed.
Is there a place that I can buy a remote replacement for this
unit.

Thanks Jerzy

Yes, Jerzy. The replacement is called the "Quest 3000 system".

Actually, I would think your dealer can get one for you - unless everything has been discontinued. Also, won't one of those programmable remotes, that you can buy in almost any electronics store, work?

Jerzy,

You're probably taking the best step.

I‘ve heard that in some low-end electronics, the remotes, (the specific ones that come with the equipment, as opposed t programmable after-market ones,) cost more from the manufacturer than the piece of equipment they control.

I’m not sure about how many functions some programmable remotes have, but I’ve never had one that even did all the stuff I could do with even my VCR’s remote. Such as programming it to record at specific times, or setting the clock, and such. And, quite often, you have to have a working original to “teach” some features to the after-market remotes.

There are loads of semi-inexpensive home theater systems out there. I finally gave up my original Quest, and replaced it with a Sony DAV-DX255. Expect to pay from $250-300. But search for the many threads about the Quest system, and you’ll see why it’s probably money well spent.

The main problem with most other units will be the fact that they may not have outputs for the bedroom speakers. Not a major problem for us, since we have never used them, anyway.

Thanks Steve for this information. I did not think about bedroom speakers. I could use A&B speakers selector to get around this problem.

I agree with Gyro, Jerzy. I'd get a cheap after market programmable remote for now. He's absolutley correct - you won't get all the features on it that the original remote had. Then I would save up to get rid of that Quest 2000 ASAP. Nothing but trouble from them. The 3000 system they are now putting in Montanas are hands down better units. However, I would aim for a name brand system if replacing...

The programmable remotes probably do not include a code number for Quest products [it's a unusual brand]. The remote may be unique, as it controls the "functions" of the receiver as it cycles through its modes of operation and the dvd player's and tuner's settings.

I think the poster would have better luck titling a thread "Anyone have a Quest 2000 remote they would [sell, trade, give away]?" There are so many members that have junked the Quest system, that someone may have an orphan remote.
