F-250 brake pad life
How many miles are you guys averaging before brake pad replacement? I have an '03 SD Lariet, both front and rear discs....just wondering, mine has 28,000 miles, both tow and non tow driving.

WE had a 1999 F350 that had 67,000 miles on it when i traded it in and we never replaced the brakes. Virginia requires an annual inspection and the dealer said they were always ok.

On our last TV our tire guy thought it was agood idea to check our brake pads at @ 20,000 miles.(he pulled a big boat) The pads were not worn out BUT showed signs of having been over heated..Big camper..not so big truck... Something to think about.

I have almost 45,000 miles on my truck, had the brakes checked before a trip down to Nashville this past October. Dealership said I had 50% in the front and 55% in the rear. My truck has 4 wheel disk brakes, and is my only rig so these miles are towing and every day driving.

86K on my 2001 F-250 and the brake pads still look good, trying for 100K. Don't spend much time city driving.

Thanks all, it seems like I'm never around when the tires get rotated on my puller.
I can rest easier now.

My last truck was a F250 pulling a slightly smaller 5th wheel. and I traded it off with the original pads and it had 117k on the odometer. They still had miles left on them, and no squeking of wear bars yet. I think it depends a lot on how you have your trailer brakes set up and how you drive. If you wait until the last minute and slam on the brakes every stop then they are going to wear a little faster. The shop were I get the oil changed rotates my tires every oil change for free. I have them check the pads every once and a while and they never said they needed replaced. So, I'm happy.

Jim --
1999 F350 traded at 69,000 miles still had the original pads. We were fulltiming the last 20k miles of that.
2003 F350 traded at 51,000 miles. Original pads. Entire life of this truck was during our fulltiming.
2005 F250 with 44,000 miles (later this week it will hit that figure) and still on original pads. All fulltiming.
If you do a lot of city stop and go you may need pads at a lower mileage but I doubt 28k is even close. I'd guess you'll get at least 50k and probably more even with lots of city driving. Unless you are frequently a last second braker.

I've passed 58,000 on my F350 and the pads still look like they have half of their life left. I rotate the tires every 5000 miles and check each time. Was told by ford mechanic that when they are gone you usually have to replace everything costing around $1000.

When we got back east from AK this fall, had dealer check pads. At 55k, 55% front and 60% rear w/4-wheel disks. No worries!

On my previous 2000 model, Ford F-250 with the 7.3 Diesel, I got almost 80K before I replaced the pads all around. I could not believe it. My new truck, 05, has bigger pads, the new type rotors Ford starting using in 05 and we are hoping to get at least the same if not more. The new type pads from the factory are a ceramic type pad. As other Fords drivers know, the newer trucks can stop on a dime and hold the road superbly. Can you tell I am a Ford Fan?
